This is a gorgeous and elegant hotel with courteous staff and beautiful Onsen baths. We arrived in the evening and enjoyed the magical gardens with lights and mist.
There are numerous restaurants on the grounds but none serve a quick simple dinner. They are all multiple course Kaiseke style and expensive (16000-20000 yen = around $100 per person). Room service is also expensive. Recommend to book the meal plan rather than playing it by ear like we did. If no meal plan, then the best option for a reasonable price dinner is room service Ramen served after 9.30pm - the server who brought it laid it out like a ceremony - delicious and a fun experience.
The hotel is not so central but the 20 min JR train ride plus 10m walk is worth it if you value a quiet local neighborhood vibe.
