"We recently stayed at this incredible cabin and cannot recommend it enough. The space is modern, immaculately clean, and exceptionally comfortable. The mountain views are absolutely breathtaking and we spent hours watching the incredible variety of birds at the feeders. Our absolute favorite spot was the screened porch with the fireplace--perfect for cozying in the evenings. And the dark skies make stargazing a stunning experience in this area. Amenities are more than adequate and the location is unbeatable. It's right on Portal Road, making it super convenient to pop over the Portal Lodge and Cafe to enjoy a burger and a brew. If you are looking for a delightful, relaxing getaway with stunning views and great hiking opportunities, this is the place to book. We will definitely be back."
Private Estate for Family Reunion, Weddings, Business Retreat, and Vacations
10/10 Excellent
"We just came back from 3 nights at the Painted Pony for our family reunion. There was enough space for all 29 of us, and we had room for our big meals, karaoke, crafts, games, swimming, and lots of time together. It was lovely to go outside in the evenings and see the stars, and we found a perfect spot for a professional photographer to come take family portraits. The host and caretaker were very helpful and attentive without being in the way or hovering. We had such a great stay!"
Tiny Home with Observatory near Rodeo, New Mexico & Portal, AZ
10/10 Excellent
"As a solo traveler I felt safe and comfortable! I loved the little house, it was a perfect getaway. John and Cathy work hard to make it feel like a home and everything was clean and comfortable. I had a great 'star party' with John and learned a lot, as someone with zero astro experience, it was fun and approachable!"
"We loved our stay and wish we could have stayed longer. The property is excellent in all ways - everything was spotless, the living quarters and kitchen very spacious, the bedrooms perfect with very comfortable beds, and the bathrooms very good. The check-in process was seamless, communication with the host excellent, and there was a lot of information material on the area available. We especially enjoyed the quiet and fairly remote area - the dark night sky was breathtaking, and there were lots of birds on the property, perfect for us birders. We highly recommend this property and hope we can come back."
