At first I didn’t like it but when I savored the atmosphere of the locals and the feel of the real Chiangrai, I loved it. I strongly recommend it. Try the local restaurants and great food at bargain prices. He is English speaking, funny and genuinely interested in his customers.We visited the golden triangle, the white temple which is amazing and Parn knows his histoty. Location is a bit ‘out of the way’ and the city centre is not really within walking distance. The accommodation itself is modern and functional rather than luxurious. The staff were reasonably friendly, but not overly so. We had booked a ‘twin bedded’ room which turned out to be on the floor above the ground floor, but I have mobility problems and the stairs were going to prove difficult for me. Available rooms on the ground floor were only ‘doubles’ and they wanted to charge an extra 600 baht to put an extra bed in one of those ‘doubles’, which I declined and struggled with the stairs!! Unfortunately it rained very heavily throughout our 2 nights stay so we were not able to explore any of the surrounding area at all. The hotel doesn’t offer any bar/restaurant facilities but, fortunately, there is a ‘locals’ pub directly over the road which provided us with drinks and quite acceptable food, though not exactly in luxurious surroundings.
