If you like shabby sheikh, which I do, then you will, too. The furniture in the room harked from the 1950-60’s in style and they had definitely seen some wear; but everything worked well and it appeared clean, although the fitted bottom sheet was stained and grayish in color. The bed was quite firm, but comfortable. There was no top sheet, but a nice soft blanket for a covering. I liked the old-fashioned dressing table and stool and used it for storing my jewelry. There was no light nearby, however, so I couldn’t use it for make-up. There was a tall stand for hanging short clothes and drawers for unpacking if you are staying more than a night. There was a reading chair and a traditional ‘50’s low oval coffee table which similar to the one we had when I was a child, which made it very comfortable. No desk for working. The bathroom was clean with a bucket and pitcher for bathing, as well as a shower head. It is a wet bath and was up two steps from the bedroom itself. The porcelain sink was set in a very small marble counter, but there was a long, narrow shelf for storing one’s toiletries. I couldn’t find the switch for turning on the hot water tank my first night. However, the next morning when I was fresh I found it on the bedroom wall shared with with bathroom sink. It would have been good to have the porter point this out to me when I was initially shown to my room. The room (I chose the biggest available on travelocity) is large and spacious, kept neat, the sheets were clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff are courteous, polite and very accommodating. Checked in at 3pm and checked out 3pm the next day. The wi-fi wasnt working throughout our stay, the door handle to our bathroom was broken from the inside, no toilet paper in the restroom (you could ask for it though), downstairs coffee machine was broken and the odd mosquito here and there which seems to be the general problem with Chennai (they do have a mosquito repellent plugged into the outlets).
