The former gatekeeper's house marks the entrance to the castle grounds and has been converted and restored to provide comfortable accommodation for up to four guests over its unique layout. Its ancient and impressive structure is complemented with symmetrical gardens lined with iron railings and a stone courtyard in the centre. The accommodation is arranged such that Bedroom One, with its four-poster bed and en-suite shower room, is accessed via a separate door, in one wing of the Gatehouse. Across the courtyard is another door, leading into a well-equipped kitchen with a dining table and chairs for four guests, a utility area with stairs leading up to a beautifully furnished, cosy living area and additional separate WC just off the landing. A further seven steps will take you to Bedroom Two, a spacious room with a king-size double bed. A few steps down will lead you to the en-suite shower room, with a concealed washing machine and tumble dryer. Outside, guests can admire the pastoral views that line the driveway to the castle from two individually gated gardens, a mirror image of each other, neatly connected by a shared patio in the middle with an outdoor dining table and chairs. Ground Floor Please note, as per the floor plan, the bedrooms have separate entrances across a courtyard and are not joined. Bedroom One & En-Suite Shower Room: To your left when facing the Castle Gatehouse is a door into Bedroom One, a sumptuous four-poster bedroom with a decorative fireplace, wardrobe and shelves, bedside tables and its own private en-suite shower room with walk-in shower, WC and washbasin. Head across the courtyard and enter through the opposite door into the: Kitchen: A thoughtfully laid-out and well-equipped kitchen, featuring a dining table and chairs for 4 people, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, oven and 4 ring electric hobs, microwave and dishwasher. Utility: The practical utility area off the kitchen under the stairs is where you'll find a large free standing fridge/freezer, high chair and stairgate, a floor mop, cushions for the outdoor chairs and even a spare dog bowl and blanket should you need it. Note: the washing machine and tumble dryer are upstairs in the en-suite bathroom. First Floor W.C: Separate WC and washbasin. Living Room: A beautifully furnished, cosy living room, decorated in rich tones of red, navy blue, black and gold. Relax in front of the flatscreen television and DVD player, surrounded by interesting antique features, such as the beautiful feature tapestry that adorns the wall. Bedroom Two: A bright room in the arch of the gatehouse, featuring painted beams, a comfortable king-size bed, a full-length mirror, storage ottomans and bedside tables. En-Suite Shower Room: En-suite with wooden floors, large walk-in power shower WC, washbasin, heated towel rail, wardrobe with storage cupboard above. There is also a washing machine and tumble dryer in a concealed cupboard. Outside The gatehouse benefits from two small, symmetrical, gardens with a wooden table and chairs for four guests, with retractable parasol, in the courtyard patio area that separates the gardens. Please note: although dogs are accepted at the Castle Gatehouse, the gardens are not secure for them. Therefore, all dogs must be kept on a lead at all times when outside. ## Property amenities ### Internet - Available in the cottage: Free WiFi ### Parking and transport - Parking on site ### Kitchen - Coffee/tea maker - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Dishwasher - Hob - Microwave - Oven - Refrigerator - Toaster ### Dining - Dining table ### Bedrooms - 2 bedrooms - Bedsheets provided ### Bathroom - 2 bathrooms - Free toiletries - Hair dryer - Shower - Towels provided ### Living spaces - Dining table - Living room ### Entertainment - TV with satellite channels ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Garden - Patio ### Laundry - Laundry facilities - Washing machine ### Comfort - Heating ### Pets - Pet friendly - Food and water bowls ### Suitability/Accessibility - Smoke-free property ### Services and conveniences - Iron/ironing board ### Location highlights - In a rural location ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector (host has indicated there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property) - Smoke detector (host has indicated there is a smoke detector on the property) - First aid kit - Fire extinguisher ### General - Garden - Unit size: 840 square feet ## Similar properties ![Outdoor dining](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/71000000/70260000/70259300/70259282/8350c107.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Church Cottage - a cotswold cottage that sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms Chipping Campden - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer - Free WiFi 9.8 Exceptional 27 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-21&endDate=2025-10-22&selected=70259282&PinnedHotelID=70259282&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/115000000/114150000/114141600/114141598/18131484.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### The Studio Cottage - pet friendly in Broad Campden near Chipping Campden Broad Campden - Kitchen - Washer - Dryer - Pet-friendly 9.8 Exceptional 7 reviews [](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hotel-Search?startDate=2025-10-21&endDate=2025-10-22&selected=114141598&PinnedHotelID=114141598&HadPinnedHotel=true®ionId=-1&adults=2) ![Exterior](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/34000000/33590000/33581100/33581094/d29aca12.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Grade II Listed Cotswolds Self Catering Accommodation. With one bedroom with en-suite on the ground floor it made it easy for our elderly parents to enjoy the place and surroundings. So long as whomever uses the second bedroom and bathroom can navigate narrow stairs, some without hand rails, this is a fantastically placed accommodation for exploring the Cotswolds and nearby attractions, especially Sudeley Castle. What a stunning building the gatehouse is . It feels very private and we had glorious weather so could enjoy the outside space . The beds in particular are super comfortable. It’s a perfect base for the castle and gardens .also great for the town of Winchcombe . The property staff were also very helpful . ### 8/10 Good #### Greg S. 1 Nov 2021 Liked: Check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Great building and fab location Really enjoyed our stay. The building is amazing and the location is brilliant! Good documentation from the agency. ##### Greg S. Toiletries provided and plenty of towels and a nice welcome pack of essentials like milk, teabags etc. The gatehouse was spotlessly clean and provided a comfortable stay. Very nice to walk to the castle to get some history of England. Every day a lot of people walk by with their dogs and all in a tranquille setting with birds of prey in the air. Everything you need is in the gatehouse. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Melissa L. 10 Jun 2022 #### WONDEFUL Was absolutely perfection!!!!! Relaxing, close to everything surrounded by nature and short walk to castle and town. Perfection ##### Melissa L. Beds are a little uncomfortable and it is on the pricey side. Make sure the heating is always on as it gets cold This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent 8 May 2024 #### Such an unusual property! We spent a lovely two nights at the Castle Gatehouse. It’s such an unusual property and so close to Winchcombe and Sudeley Castle, yet in quiet isolation. Absolutely everything you could wish for is provided at the Gatehouse and the inclusion of free admission to the Castle is a bonus. It’s a beautiful place to visit and just along a path that leads directly from the Gatehouse. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Carol B. 10 Apr 2024 #### Stay at Castle Gatehouse Wonderful stay in the Castle Gatehouse over Easter, celebrating my 60th Birthday with friends. Four of us stayed, beds were comfortable, great location, we enjoyed our free visit to the Castle & Gardens which are well worth a visit. Walking distance to some nice pubs in Winchcombe, and enjoyed some lovely walks around the surrounding area. During our stay we had a problem with one of the smoke alarms, we called the number provided and maintenance visited with half an hour, most impressed. ##### Carol B. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent 13 Apr 2024 #### Highly recommend We had a perfect short stay here without a car. A short walk into town for groceries, meals out and shopping, plus beautiful country to walk in, the castle, and gardens direct from your front door. We were there in the off-season so fewer tourists and lots of lambs—perfect! Clever, quirky, architectural conversion and wonderfully hot water for showers. There are several steep staircases in this particular conversion, so I wouldn’t recommend it for people that might challenge, but I would for everyone else. We loved our stay. ### 6/10 Okay #### Allison P. 30 Jun 2023 Liked: Check-in, communication, location Disliked: Cleanliness #### Lovely exterior...inside could use some TLC The gatehouse was lovely and a perfect location but the interior needs some updating. Kitchen chairs & fabric headboard were heavily stained and entire cottage was in need of dusting. ##### Allison P. Stayed 2 nights in Jun 2023 This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Colin W. 6 Jun 2024 #### A knight at the castle. Our three day stay at the Gatehouse was exactly as we had hoped it would be. A great location with nature all around but the village amenities just 5 minutes walk away. The castle itself is both beautiful and historically significant, having been the resting place of Katherine Parr and home to monarchs and kingmakers. The rooms are cosy - it’s a gatehouse, not a chateau, so don’t expect to have acres of space. That doesn’t detract from the charm of the place and for one or two couples it’s something very different to the cottage let you would normally see. Very highly recommended. ##### Colin W. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Regina R. 13 Apr 2024 #### Magical stay in extraordinary caste gatehouse If you have the opportunity to book a stay in this historic castle gatehouse, do not hesitate. The property has all the modern comforts including two spacious bathrooms and a full-sized clothes washer and dryer. Perfect for two couples or a family with older children (since the two bedrooms are in separate parts of the gatehouse). It’s a 5-minute walk into the charming town with several good pubs and restaurants. Make sure to save a day to explore Sudeley castle and its gardens. It is spectacular and packed with history. Admission is free with your stay, but we recommend the inexpensive 30-minute tour provided by one of their excellent guides. Don’t miss a chance to stay in this extraordinary property! ##### Regina R. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 6/10 Okay 21 Mar 2024 #### Castle Gatehouse Generally we liked the property, it had everything we needed for our stay and the location is excellent. The wifi was very poor and needs to be improved. The property had a lot of lady birds crawling everywhere, during our 3 night stay i gathered 25 lady birds and put them outside. Both bedrooms are a great size with excellent ensuites. I think the website should make it clearer that one of the bedrooms has a different entrance to the rest of the property, ie it is completely separate so it wouldn't be suitable for 2 adults plus 2 children. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 6/10 Okay 3 Jul 2023 #### Disappointing stay Lovely setting but really let down by standard/comfort of furniture. Kitchen chairs were disgusting covered in stains and therefore we didn’t want to use them. Beds uncomfortable mattresses inferior. We felt the property was very overpriced for the standard of the interior particularly-very basic and very disappointed This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good #### Sue G. 8 Oct 2023 #### Great location, well equipped accommodation Great location for exploring Sudeley Castle and the surrounding area. Very well equipped kitchen and furniture. High quality finishes throughout. Loved the outside space and the welcome pack. Duvets, bed linen and towels should be upgraded to meet this standard of rental. Loo seat needs tightening in one of the bathrooms. Lots of cobwebs in the larger bathroom. Hooks for hanging dressing gowns would be appreciated and a soap dish for the shower. Limited hangers for a 3 night stay. Very informative guidebook but the username for the internet is incorrect. Otherwise a great stay and would recommend to others. ##### Sue G. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good #### Daniel R. 13 Apr 2024 #### Spring 2024 The gatehouse was a lovely location, the accommodation suited us as two couples we enjoyed visiting local sites of interest especially the castle and the steam railway in Winchcombe. We would recommend the Indian restaurant in Winchcombe and had a nice meal in the Pheasant pub in toddington. We would like to make a few polite recommendations, There was an ant problem in the kitchen side of the building which we reported and was told it would be sorted out. Wooden flooring in kitchen not fixed down(trip hazard) and damp coming through above window in front room needs looking at urgently. Helpful recommendations hooks in downstairs bathroom/ second frying pan/ bed linen refreshed. ##### Daniel R. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 6/10 Okay #### Alexander D. 21 May 2024 #### Room for improvement Enjoyed visiting Sudeley Castle and Gardens several times without charge. As far as the Gatehouse is concerned there is room for improvement: No bedside-lights within easy reach in the bedroom (1 st floor). One bulb in a table lamp in the living room was missing. Shower on the ground floor did not provide cold water. Heating not working properly. Mould at a window lintel (living room). Stains on the bed linen. ##### Alexander D. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Courtney C. 1 Jul 2024 #### Unforgettable Stay We truly enjoyed our stay at Sudeley Castle Gatehouse. it was a once in a lifetime experience staying in the Gatehouse. It is well appointed and has all the comforts of home while being one of a kind. It’s located alongside a beautiful path to the Sudeley Castle itself, which is only a short 5-10 minute walk away. The pasture next door has sheep grazing and overall the location is charming and peaceful. So many nice touches and conveniences…separate washer and dryer, a fresh pint of milk left sealed for us in the fridge for morning coffee, the courtyard with table and chairs (only 3 and would have been nice to have 4 chairs), the modern kitchen amenities, the private gated drive and property, dog friendly (even though we didn’t have our dog with us), 2 1/2 bathrooms, the 2 binders left with info: one with user manuals and one with area sites, restaurants, maps, etc., and free entry to tour the beautiful Sudeley Castle and many more. Potential improvements are few…adding hooks in the bathroom for towels, wish the gatehouse was a single unit to be more family friendly for traveling with kids, rather than requiring separate keyed-entry for the bedroom and bathroom on the left, and a welcome tray of fruit ;) ##### Courtney C. This review comes from a trusted partner site and has not been verified. ### 8/10 Good 28 Apr 2024 #### The Gatehouse worked well for our party of two (unrelated) couples. We all enjoyed staying at the Gatehouse very much. One couple had a kitchen and a sitting room as well as an ensuite bathroom, while the other had a bedroom and an ensuite bathroom. We are very old friends and this worked for us; it would also work well for a family. The Gateway was very clean with ample towels of a good quality and a well stocked kitchen. The sitting room was a bit snug, but very comfortable. We loved the setting of the Gatehouse and, being semi city folk, we enjoyed the peace and quiet. The complimentary entrance to the Castle was very welcome. My husband and I volunteer in a house in Twickenham and we enjoyed exploring the links between the two properties. There were a couple of 'niggles'. First the beds were rather hard and the pillows were very flat. The ensuite bathroom in the larger half of the Gatehouse was accessed by stairs with no handrail. My friends reported that it felt very unsafe in the middle of the night. They also reported that the shower controls were temperamental. The grounds of the castle are a mecca for dog walkers so if you bring dogs, they will have plenty of company! We stayed for four nights, a short winter break. The Gatehouse was very warm and had everything we needed. There was only two of us so the space worked well, it would be a little tight with four people. The shower cubicle was host to some mould, it could do with a deep clean. We didn't use the second bedroom so can't comment on that. ## Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > [The Stump](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Stump.h82973614.Hotel-Information) > > [Lords of the Manor Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Lords-Of-The-Manor-Hotel.h17766135.Hotel-Information) > > [The Colesbourne Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Colesbourne-Inn.h3810136.Hotel-Information) > > [The Charlton Boutique Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Charlton-Boutique-Hotel.h84515831.Hotel-Information) > > [Old Bank Rooms](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Old-Bank-Rooms.h60035126.Hotel-Information) > > [DoubleTree by Hilton Cheltenham-Cotswolds](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Doubletree-By-Hilton-Cheltenham.h65899.Hotel-Information) > > [The Plough Bed and Breakfast](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Plough-Inn.h12926879.Hotel-Information) > > [Old Manse Hotel Bourton by Greene King Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Old-Manse-Hotel-Bourton-By-Greene-King-Inns.h3075291.Hotel-Information) > > [The Lansdowne](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Lansdowne.h2250337.Hotel-Information) > > [The Greenway Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Greenway-Hotel-Spa.h520203.Hotel-Information) > > [The Wheatsheaf Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Wheatsheaf-Inn.h1218872.Hotel-Information) > > [Ellenborough Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Ellenborough-Park.h27157.Hotel-Information) > > [The Slaughters Country Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Slaughters-Country-Inn.h5484211.Hotel-Information) > > [Cave Hotel & Golf Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Faversham-Hotels-Cave-Hotel-Golf-Resort.h33410673.Hotel-Information) > > [The Bell at Stow](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Bell-At-Stow.h35819374.Hotel-Information) > > [The Mousetrap Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Mousetrap-Inn.h2294168.Hotel-Information) > > [The Old New Inn](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Old-New-Inn.h37164164.Hotel-Information) > > [Broadlands Hotel - Adults Only](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Broadlands-Hotel.h2631331.Hotel-Information) > > [Grosvenor Pulford Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Chester-Hotels-Grosvenor-Pulford-Hotel-Spa.h790572.Hotel-Information) > > [The Stag at Stow](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Stag-At-Stow.h15876871.Hotel-Information) > > [The Lamb Inn Great Rissington](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Lamb-Inn-Great-Rissington.h4592088.Hotel-Information) > > [The Porch House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Porch-House.h4595892.Hotel-Information) > > [The Frogmill](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Frogmill.h23324533.Hotel-Information) > > [Cowley Manor Experimental](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Cowley-Manor.h1662540.Hotel-Information) > > [Wyck Hill House Hotel And Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Wyck-Hill-House-Hotel-And-Spa.h558527.Hotel-Information) > > [Lakes Hotel and Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Windermere-Hotels-Lakes-Hotel-And-Spa.h901040.Hotel-Information) > > [Oakey Cottage](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Cotswold-Cottage-Gems-Oakey-Cottage.h67269735.Hotel-Information) > > [The Dial House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Dial-House.h3883874.Hotel-Information) > > [Rising Sun Hotel by Greene King Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-Rising-Sun-Hotel-By-Greene-King-Inns.h63601.Hotel-Information) > > [The Slaughters Manor House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cheltenham-Hotels-The-Slaughters-Manor-House.h790467.Hotel-Information)
