Whistler doesn’t have a commercial airport of its own. So while you can’t fly direct to Whistler, you can fly to Vancouver International Airport, the closest airport to Whistler, and transfer to Whistler from there. Whether you are staying at a low-key bed and breakfast or a luxury mountain resort, most hotels will be happy to arrange a door-to-door airport transfer for you.
A large number of quality airlines fly to Vancouver International direct from London Heathrow in the UK, including American Airlines, Air Canada, British Airways and Lufthansa. If you are travelling from another UK airport, you may have to stop elsewhere en route. There are dozens of different flight options and stopovers to choose from, enabling you to cherry-pick the combination that best suits you and your travel plans in Whistler.
If you don’t mind a longer flight, book a Whistler flight with a single stop. It’s less convenient than flying direct, but if you’re on a budget it could save you a significant amount – which means more to spend on skiing and après-ski! It also helps to be flexible with dates and flight times; Whistler flights that depart early in the morning or late at night are often cheaper.
Vancouver International Airport is an award-winning airport located on Sea Island, a short drive from Downtown Vancouver. It is the second busiest airport in the country, with more than 20 million passengers and at least 300,000 flights every year. Vancouver International is a bright, modern airport with a wide range of restaurants, bars and shops. Flying into Vancouver International Airport is a treat thanks to its stunning location. Look out for views of the Salish Sea, snowcapped mountains and downtown Vancouver as you come in to land.
Most visitors complete their journey to Whistler by car. A handful of car rental companies operate from Vancouver International’s terminal, and several more can be reached via a shuttle service. Whistler is about two hours away along the beautiful Highway 99, known as the Sea to Sky Highway. Spectacular mountain, ocean and city views await you along the route.
For a cheaper transfer, use the airport’s SkyLynx coach services, which leave for Whistler every day, all year round. Other transport options include arranging a door-to-door transfer with your hotel, or booking a private transfer. Alternatively, if you are feeling flash, you can reach Whistler in 30 minutes by helicopter or floatplane.
