Corfu International Airport, or Ioannis Kapodistrias International Airport serves both scheduled and chartered flights to the island. It is located around a mile south of Corfu Town.

As you descend to the airport you are offered spectacular views of Pontikonisi and Vlaherna Monastery, as well as the hills of Kanoni, so try and grab a window seat if you can.

The easiest way to get into the city from the airport is either by hire car – there are several rental options at the airport – or by taxi.

There is the option of the bus – number 15 serves the city – but this can often be crowded and uncomfortable.

For resorts further afield, there are shared shuttles which may be provided by your hotel or can be booked independently online.

How to Get Around in Corfu

The glamorous way to see Corfu is to hop on a boat tour and see it from the waters. If you are travelling on land, however, your best bet by far is to hire a car. Car hire is relatively cheap and Corfu is the perfect size for day trips by car.

Corfu has both a municipal bus service (blue buses) and a KTEL service. Though fine for one-off trips the bus services can often take a long time and can run to a limited schedule.

Taxis offer standard fares to most destinations and can be ordered by phone. They are perfect for shorter trips.


What Are the Must-Sees in Corfu?

If you had to single out just one resort to visit out on Corfu then it has to be Paleokastritsa. Set amongst high cliffs and several indented coves, there’s a lovely monastery to visit if you fancy some time off the beach.

For a splash of over-the-top grandeur head out to the Achilleion Palace in Gastouri. Built for the Empress Elizabeth of Austria in the 1890s, and since featured in a James Bond movie, you can tour its rooms and statue-filled gardens. with their many statues.

Corfu Town offers plenty to see and do, with its archaeological museums, historic churches, forts and bustling harbours by the Old Town. It makes a lovely change from all that sun and sand!
