We've got the lowdown on how to make your flight as pain-free as possible. Follow our tips and you'll be speeding through airport security and exploring Buffalo in no time flat. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane ride can be a stress-free experience if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as lip balm and hand cream, a spare pair of socks and a good book. Secondly, find a spot in your carry-on bag for your electronic gadgets, chargers, medications and perhaps a proper neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, remember to bring your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Check carefully that you don't have sharp objects (like a knife or scissors) hiding in one of the zippers of your carry-on luggage. Other banned items include flammable or explosive products, such as bleach and fuel, and liquids and gels in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres).

What to wear on a flight:

• Go for comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes in the cabin by dressing in layers, and wear slightly roomy, flat shoes like slip-ons.
• It's likely you've heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity. To minimize your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and keep your feet and legs moving.

Being prepared before you get to the airport will help make your trip to Buffalo a breeze. We've compiled some handy tips and tricks for a stress-free journey past security:

• Airport security personnel first need to check that you have a valid passport and boarding pass before you can proceed any further. Have them ready to show.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your headphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them before your turn arrives.
• Your electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go through the machine to be scanned. Don't worry, you'll be back online in no time.
• Want to bring along your favourite cologne or perfume? No problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and it's stored in a zip-close bag, it's OK to bring with you in your carry-on bag.
• The right choice of footwear can save you valuable minutes. Hiking or heavy-style boots are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Slip-on shoes are usually not.
• Airlines won't allow any sharp objects to come on board with you. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked luggage.
