Maintenon
8.6 out of 10, Excellent, (277 reviews)
"The breakfast was amazing and the restaurant is truly original with the biggest " cheese dome" in the world. The big problem I had was that the rooms are not equipped with a mini bar which is a must at any time of the year but more so during a heat wave. I was upgraded to a room with a tiny fridge and no alcohol in it. There was no vending machine either. The underground parking is very convenient with a direct elevator to the reception area."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Champagne?
The best area to stay in Champagne is Épernay, often considered the heart of the Champagne region.

Épernay is a refined town known for its grand Champagne houses lining the famous Avenue de Champagne. This street is home to many of the most prestigious producers, with their impressive mansions and extensive cellars. The town centre is walkable, with a good selection of restaurants and shops, and the Marne River runs along its northern edge.

For couples seeking a romantic and indulgent experience, Épernay is an ideal base. You can easily spend days exploring the cellars and tasting rooms along the Avenue de Champagne, enjoying guided tours and learning about the production process. Many houses offer delightful dining experiences within their estates. The town's central location also makes it convenient for day trips to surrounding vineyards and charming villages.

Alternatively, Reims offers a more urban experience while still being steeped in Champagne history. It's a larger city with a rich heritage, including the impressive Reims Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Here, you'll find a wider array of restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions alongside several prominent Champagne houses.

Families might find Reims a better fit due to its broader range of activities beyond wine tasting. The city has parks, museums, and more diverse dining options that cater to different tastes and ages.
When is the best time to go to Champagne?
The best times to visit Champagne are during late spring (May to June) and early autumn (September to October).

Late spring offers pleasant weather, with temperatures typically ranging from 15°C to 20°C. The vineyards are lush and green, and the days are long, great for exploring the countryside and visiting champagne houses. This period avoids the peak summer crowds and prices, allowing for a more relaxed experience. Many champagne houses and restaurants are fully open and operating with extended hours.

Early autumn is another excellent choice, with comfortable temperatures usually between 12°C and 18°C. This is harvest season, which is a particularly interesting time to be in the region. You'll see the vineyards bustling with activity, and many towns hold harvest festivals. The autumn colours in the vineyards are also quite beautiful.

How much is the nightly rate at a Champagne hotel?
