One of the most amazing hotels - unique and beautiful. The staff go beyond to make your stay pleasant, the rooms are incredible. Being able to sleep at the foot of a vulcano in the midst of an animal sanctuary is a dream. Only down side is the a la carte breakfast which considering it was more than $65 for three could have been improved.

Once you've marvelled at your surroundings, your accommodation and the facilities, thinking that you must be dreaming, the staff and management just embrace you and you are part of the family. I travelled on my own but it was the same for couples too. All the staff at El Silencio are professional to the nth degree and their customer service first class but in a relaxing way that makes one feel at home. Clean room, helpful staff. Room a biyt outdated but nice and spacious with everything you need. Pool was excellent as were the grounds. We had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. Nothing fancy but very tasty and well cooked, good value for money. 25 mins from airport (12km), easy drive just a little traffic to consider

I had an excellent stay at the Canal Grande Lodge. The staff were wonderful, really friendly and helpful and the hotel was spotless with large spacious rooms. It also had a lovely outdoor space with a pool and amazing views. A good option for those who are looking to stay close to San Jose airport but away from the busy streets of San Jose.

Perfect first night hotel after a long flight. The hotel arranged an airport pick up for us. The room was very comfortable. All the staff were friendly & helpful. Food at the restaurant was great and reasonably priced. Would definitely stay here again.

Excellent staff, lovely location and spa treatment. Fantastic views.

Stayed here after an adventure portion of our trip and found it to be a great relaxation spot. Sprawling pool with amazing views of the valley and our room had a good-sized patio to unwind at. The rooms (at least the one we stayed in) are all offshoots from a gorgeous atrium-like structure with a fountain and a fireplace for cooler months.

Great family room. Comfy beds. Lovely breakfast and helpful staff.

Helpful friendly staff, good food, clean and well equipped rooms and superb gardens with a host of birds. Can't fault it.

Staff were so incredibly supportive and friendly, thank you

Absolutely amazing setting to this property. We felt like we were in the middle of the rainforest but with convenient access also to the pool & hot springs. The food was good too. Being so far out of town was not a problem without a car as all the tour services came to collect us from the hotel.

We came back to Costa Rica just because of our memories of the first time we stayed here and were not disappointed. They'd improved the dining room since last time but the birds were still as great. The last 20k of the approach is now sealed apart from the last 3.

The perfect place to stay to maximize your chances of seeing quetzals. Not the cheapest but worth every dollar. Beautiful grounds even in the rain. Very friendly and attentive staff. Good restaurant with great service. Truly excellent guide in Greibin.

This is a lovely hotel with beautiful surroundings. Close enough to central San Jose and the hotel staff are very good at recommending a good route to walk to see all that San Jose has to offer. Really lovely restaurant. Thoroughly recommended

Really beautiful property and grounds, lovely clean and comfortable room, amazing food at dinner, would highly recommend.

we loved staying at this place for a couple of nights when we arrived in Costa Rica. Margarita was so helpful, kind & friendly. the family room was great & we loved the pool. a nice quiet location but near enough to the airport. Would definitely recommend.
