About this property
Marwhin House - SWWR
Surrounded by the Galloway Hills, this detached, pet friendly property has dramatic views towards the Solway Firth and Cumbrian Hills.. "Idyllically set on a 3000-acre estate..."
Enjoying an idyllic situation on the 3000-acre Crofts Estate, surrounded by the Galloway Hills, these holiday cottages have enviable, dramatic views towards the Solway Firth and Cumbrian Hills beyond. Accessed along a private drive, and adjoining a cluster of well-maintained estate buildings, Stable Cottage (ref UUD) makes a romantic hideaway for two, offering stylishly furnished accommodation – its walls adorned with the original work of various Scottish artists. The larger Victorian detached Gardener’s Cottage (ref UXT) has been elegantly furnished, and features an attractive shared garden with a bridge over a burn and a small waterfall. Arkland Mill (ref STTZ) stands detached with a lovely large garden, a summerhouse and its own bridge over the stream. Marwhin House (SWWR) and Marwhin Cottage (ref SWWS) also stand detached, situated within 25 yards of each other, still with there own privacy, the latter two properties being set in gardens with a delightful stream and pond. Woodland walks and hillside trails radiate from the doorstep. Dumfries lies just 12 miles away, where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and museums, as well as a good theatre. Castle Douglas (8 miles) is a traditional market town with individual shops specialising in food and local produce. There are many beautiful beaches within easy reach along the Solway, and the National Trust Threave Gardens, 8 miles, makes for an interesting day out. We had a fantastic stay.
We had a fantastic stay. We took our dog too as a guy Fawkes gettaway as he does not like fireworks. During our stay it was so pieceful and relaxing . The house is immaculate and very comfortable. The photos do not do it justice it is a glorious house with beautiful surroundings Plenty dog friendly things to do in the surrounding areas Kipford to rockliffe was great Castle Douglas nice town Nice walks around Dumfries too
Had a last minute change in travel plans and luckily this place was available. So happy the travel plans changed because this spot was incredible. Ginormous house with everything you need. Stream running through the property and incredible views. If we ever return to Scotland this will be at the top of the list of places to stay.
A really lovely, spacious cottage set next to another property in peaceful countryside.
A really lovely, spacious cottage set next to another property in peaceful countryside. Great for walks (outside of shooting season) and simply stopping to relax. Superb collection of Scottish art on the walls too. Dogs (like ours) are welcome, but you can't let them off the lead anywhere near the property, as it's a shooting estate and farmland. That's a shame, but understandable.
