Pocket Guide: Portugal Cascais Coast Hotels

No matter what type of hotel you are looking for, whether that’s a luxurious five star hotel or a budget bed and breakfasts near, Expedia will help you find your perfect accommodation close to the Cascais Coast.

Book a hotel in Cascais, you’ll find yourself in a cosmopolitan city, known for its picturesque city centre, beautiful mansions and a marina. Cascais is considered to be one of the richest municipalities in Portugal.

Things to Do On the Cascais Coast

Explore Boca do Inferno, a cave carved out by ocean waves. The name literally translates to the ‘mouth to hell’, as it produces a spectacular sound effect when the waves crash into the rocks.

Admire the 19th century Lighthouse, which houses the Santa Marta Museum and was recently renovated. It is one of the most iconic Portuguese lighthouses. The history and beauty of lighthouses in Portugal is conveyed through a movie shown at the Museum, depicting the oversized Fresnel lenses, and the lighthouse keepers’ diaries against the beautiful backdrop of sweeping sea views.

Head to the Fort of Our Lady, built to protect the coast of Lisbon and dedicated to Our Lady of Light.

Relax on Guincho Beach, a large sandy beach favoured by surfers and windsurfers who come here seeking the perfect waves. It’s so good for surf that World Surfing Championship was once held here.

Visit nearby Estoril and you’ll find yourself near sunny beaches, grand hotels, restaurants and a casino. Estoril also has some of Portugal’s finest golf courses, such as Estoril Golf Club and hosts international events like MotoGP at Estoril Circuit, the Estoril Open and Music Jazz Festivals.

Food and Drink

In nearby Luis de Camões Square you will find plenty of dining options, ranging from traditional Portuguese seafood and Italian restaurants to Indian and Asian cuisine. There’s also a great selection of trendy bars and pubs. Don’t forget to try the delicious butter cakes from Cascais called ‘areias’.

Shopping

If you’re after a few simple souvenirs for the folks back home, be sure to check out the street stalls on Frederico Arouca Street. For something a bit more glam, head to Casa da Guia: a beautiful 18th century mansion, which combines fashionable stores and cafés surrounded by stunning sea views.

Browse the local shops near Tamariz Beach or go to Cascais Shopping, where you’ll find great fashion brands, decorative items, technology and entertainment. There’s also a cinema where movies are shown with English subtitles.

There is a train service from downtown Lisbon to Cais do Sodré, which will take you to Cascais in about 50 minutes, but you can also choose to rent a car to explore the Cascais area at your own pace.
