It was a lovely setting in a village that is busy by day but deathly quiet at night. Parking is tricky and the road through the village is extremely narrow but once you've navigated that, it was perfect for us. ##### Mary Anne B. Looks small from the outside but is deceivingly spacious. Everything you need, we’ll appointed and very cosy. Great location in a small village and well placed for all surrounding attractions. Decent beer and food in the Malt Shovel - 5 mins walk. Good walks up Warton Crag and just a short distance from RSPB Leighton Moss. Would definitely visit again. ##### Paul B. Location is perfect for exploring the lake district, the coast and Lancaster. We were so comfortable and blessed with the weather, so we could sit outside on the lovely seating area. Never have we stayed anywhere with everything we could possibly need until here. Lovely friendly place too, and I once again wish to thank Katrina for the birthday surprises for my daughter, a massive hit. ##### Maggie M. Absolutely spotlessly clean! Amazing walks straight from the cottage! We went during the covid semi lockdown just for a change of scenery so did not go to any of the lovely looking pubs close by. Had a walk up Warton crag which is fantastic and on the doorstep. Excellent location to get to morcambe the lakes and Lancaster. Would recommend to anyone. ##### Sam S. Stayed 2 nights in Oct 2020 ### 8/10 Good #### Lorna E. 7 Aug 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location #### Lovely traditional style cottage The cottage is very cute and higgledy piggledy, wonky stairs, beams etc. Things to note - There is a curtain over the toilet, not a door; but there is the option of closing the landing door and the master bedroom for privacy. The bed is very hard, there is road noise and the church bells ring on the hour every hour. The kitchen is well stocked and there was a lovely welcome hamper on arrival. Communication with the host was good. Beautiful church grounds and warton rectory next door. Pet friendly and nice touches for furry friends, but the garden walls were low enough that our small dog could jump over. could jump over.over.them door ##### Lorna E. Stayed 2 nights in Aug 2024 ### 4/10 Poor #### Helen L. 19 Apr 2024 Liked: Check-in, communication, location Disliked: Cleanliness, listing accuracy #### Disappointingly shabby The owner sounded lovely on the phone, and was very helpful and quick to respond when we had to contact her. The problem was that the description of cleanliness was way out. The fiirst thing we had to do was wash the kitchen floor and wipe down the units as they were actually sticky and unpleasant. The sitting area rug was filthy. All of the net curtains were very badly frayed and grubby and the toilet had a lot of peeling paint and no door or curtains other than a net curtain that can be seen through when the light is on. None of the many sets of fairy lights worked, a small thing, but if they are all over the place, some at least should work. On the plus side the bed was clean and comfortable. The parking was on the street, but we didn't have a problem at any time. It could be such a great place if only we hadn't felt mislead by the large nummber of 10 out of 10 cleanliness reports, we are not generally fussy but did feel sad being here. ##### Helen L. Stayed 2 nights in Mar 2024 ### 6/10 Okay #### Debra v. 14 Mar 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location, listing accuracy #### Great location shame about the heating Really enjoyed our first couple of nights. That was until the boiler broke Tuesday morning. Host did arrange for someone to come out and fix it however it by time we got back it was broken again. Host then turned up with a bucket of coal another couple of heaters and a bottle of wine. Nothing could be done at 5pm at night. After this though we didn't get any updates on if the boiler would be fixed and the house is very cold without heating we also didn't have any hot water. Not really how we wanted to spend out honeymoon. We left Thursday morning and I was really glad to be heading home to get some warmth. The other issue we had is the toilet doesn't have a door but a small curtain that you pull across. Location however was brilliant. Micro brewery was lovely and the food was great. Warton crag is definitely a good one to walk. We'll definitely be visiting the area again but not in this cottage. ##### Debra v. Stayed 1 night in Mar 2023 ### 8/10 Good #### Lynda S., Henderson, Kentucky 12 May 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location #### Lovely cottage but you should know this… The cottage was lovely and quirky, as one would expect from a centuries-old English cottage. However, you should know that the bathroom situation is less than ideal. It is on the second floor, which is fine. But it is split by a hallway. The toilet is on the left side of the hallway with only a curtain to divide it from the rest of the space. There are two bedrooms going off of this hallway as well. The shower and the sink are directly across the hallway from the toilet. There is an actual door for that space. You can hear every noise and detect every odor from the toilet space as you can imagine. I shared the space with my mother, and we found the whole situation very weird and uncomfortable. It’s one thing if you are staying in that space with an intimate partner, but any other family member is just awkward. I went back to the listing to see if it mentions the bathroom situation and I somehow missed it, and it did not. I feel like this is holding back useful information to a potential renter. The host addresses the awkward bathroom situation in her information binder, but it should have been addressed in the listing. She even states in the binder that most people don’t find it an issue. Well, it is an issue. After you check in, you are stuck. You can’t check out and get a refund. You really have no choice but to accept it. Despite the fact that we were not happy with the toilet situation, the cottage itself is otherwise lovely. It’s a nice location for exploring the area. The host is very friendly and responsive. Parking was a challenge, but it seems to be that case in small English towns in general. ##### Lynda S. The kitchen is well equipped. It was lovely to have a real fire most nights. Very handy to see the lakes and our friends who live in the village. ##### Alison S. Stayed 3 nights in May 2023 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Irene R. 3 Oct 2022 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Amazing English Cottage The cottage was estimated to be built in the 1600's so the charm of it with low ceilings, creaking floor boards and a beautiful fireplace were an experience in itself for me as an Australian in a country with so much history. Katrina and her team made sure we were comfortable for the whole month we were there and by the end of our stay we felt like we were leaving home and a new friend. Everything we needed was available - like a home away from home. Location for us being so close to family and the Lakes district was perfect. I'd highly recommend. Can't wait to visit again at some point. ##### Irene R.
