Upstairs the first floor has two double bedrooms (one with an additional single bed) and an additional shower/WC. Also on the first floor, the kitchen/diner/lounge includes two large settees, a breakfast bar with four high stools (please bear this in mind if you have younger children), oven and hob, microwave, and a dishwasher. There is a wood-burning stove in the lounge for the winter months and electric panel radiators are throughout the other living areas and staircase. The washing machine is in the utility room in the cellar and the private garage can also be accessed via the cellar. The opening to the garage is 174cm tall and 222cm wide - this is large enough for most cars such as Vauxhall Meriva, Mazda 6, Peugeot 308, Ford Focus, but not for particularly tall cars like SUVs. The garage is 560cm long, so long enough for most cars. There is free parking available in the street and in other very nearby streets. Free wi-fi, (high definition) Satellite TV, and Playstation 3 with a selection of games and Blu ray movies. Carcassonne, in South West France, is easily accessible via its own airport with Ryanair flights to London Stansted, Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool, East Midlands and Bournemouth airport in the UK, Porto in Spain, Dublin and Cork in Ireland, Brussels in Belgium, and Billund in Denmark. Toulouse, Perpignan and Beziers Airports are all a little over an hour away by car with flights to many other European locations. Carcassonne is one of the most popular tourist attractions in France, with its dramatic medieval Cité (listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997). Walk along the castle ramparts to get fantastic views of Carcassonne and the surrounding countryside, or visit the Castle itself or the historic Cathedral, dating back to the 11th Century. Numerous excellent restaurants and independent high quality shops are within the walls of the medieval Cité, which are a few minutes walk from the house. Two Michelin-starred restaurants are within 400 metres of the house, one of which is in the Cité itself, the other (two-starred) a few minutes walk along the road. For those with a car, historic local villages such as Villemoustaussou and Pennautier are within 15 minutes drive. Slightly further away (about 40 minutes) is Narbonne, and a little over an hour away are Toulouse, Beziers, and Perpignan. Upon arrival, there were visible signs of dirt and mold in some areas. The downstairs shower required cleaning before use, and the refrigerator and washing machine also needed attention. Some dishes and bedding did not appear fully clean, and the property had a noticeable musty odor. Although the listing mentioned a dryer, there was none. After a rainfall on the last day, several leaks appeared. Basic supplies such as soap were nearly empty upon arrival.While the property has potential due to its layout and amenities, cleanliness and maintenance standards should be improved to ensure a more comfortable stay for future guests. ##### Oksana K. The garage is a bit tight so don’t rent a big car! The neighborhood is fantastic right at the base of the fortress. The host was very welcoming and responsive. One day we drove to the beach (1 hr). Another day we rented bikes and rode along the Canal du Midi to Trèbes. It was very homely and in a sweet part of the old city right under the Cite walls. An easy walk to the medieval ramparts above where there are lots of restaurants - and tourists! About a ten minute walk takes you to a number of restaurants on Rue Trivalle and bars. It's a little way from the town centre (about a 25 minute walk and about a 30 minute walk to the Carcassonne station. The hosts Anna and Ian are easily contactable and very helpful for everything. The key holder met us at the property and communication was difficult as her English was very limited. To start she had difficulty opening the door, so much so that we only used the garage door, the smell as you entered was very damp and musty. We didn’t use downstairs shower room as the shower enclosure was very ‘mouldy’. The wooden duckboards looked very uninviting. The kitchen was well-equipped. The oven was not clean and the wooden breakfast bar was tacky. The bed linen and pillows look old and the fitted sheet bobbly. The mattresses were about 2 ins deep. The upstairs bathroom was in a poor decorative state but it did function. The garage was a bonus. We enjoyed Carcassonne and made the best of our holiday but, in all honesty, could not recommend this property. I was surprised that Vrbo were displaying it on their site. ##### Sue M. Tenemos dos pequeños y tuvimos a esperar en la calle a baja temperatura, no fue agradable. El apartamento tiene de todo, está muy bien, aunque la limpieza en general podría mejorarse. El sitio se ajusta al anuncio y no nos ha faltado de nada. Las instrucciones muy precisas y la persona que nos acogió a la llegada tuvo muchísima paciencia. La communication avec Anna avant l'arrivée était très sympathique et toujours rapide. La remise des clés sur place par des gardiens s'est très bien passée. Les lits sont faits à l'arrivée, ils sont bons, le linge propre, assez d'oreillers et de serviettes de toilette. Nous nous sommes vite sentis comme chez nous. Pratique d'avoir un garage dans cette rue! Des lunettes de toilette de meilleure qualité (pas en plastique) et plus stables seraient un bon investissement pour les 2 WC. De même il serait bon d'expliquer comment s'ouvre la porte du poêle à bois (nous étions là début avril) car nous avons cherché longtemps à deux jusqu'à trouver le mécanisme... Very well positioned just outside the citadel walls, close to the porte d'Aude, with a good épicerie a handy short walk away. 15 minutes to the main town (which had a great market) and a further 5 minutes to the Canal du Midi. Lots of vineyards are in close proximity (by car), with loads of great cycle routes from the house. ##### Jason C. Idéalement situé au pied de la cité médiéval de Carcassonne, la propriété n'avait qu'une salle d'eau de fonctionnelle et une toilette fuyait légèrement durant notre séjour. De plus, nous sommes pointilleux sur la propreté générale et ce n'était pas du tout à notre niveau. 😒 À part cela, le reste des prestations était très convenable. 👍 ##### Philippe V.
