NRMA Port Arthur Holiday Park

NRMA Port Arthur Holiday Park

10/10 Excellent
"We stayed only one night in the accessible Garden Room and for what we paid for it was excellent. It was very close to the Port Arthur Historic site and a few shops up the road for food. The only thing we felt could have been better was the pillows. These were a bit hard for our liking, the bed however, was comfortable (soft). I wish all motels and hotels would offer a greater selection of pillows."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Cape Pillar?
The best area to stay near Cape Pillar is Port Arthur, which offers the most convenient access and a range of accommodation options.Port Arthur is a small, historic town located on the Tasman Peninsula, about an hour and a half's drive southeast of Hobart. It's the gateway to the Tasman National Park, where the Cape Pillar track begins. The town is primarily known for its World Heritage-listed Historic Site, a former penal colony, which is the main attraction, but it also serves as a practical base for exploring the dramatic coastal scenery. You'll find a few local shops, cafes, and restaurants along the main road, Safety Cove Road. For those planning to hike the Three Capes Track, staying in Port Arthur is ideal. The track's starting point is just a short drive from the town, and many tour operators offer transfers directly from local accommodation. After a day of exploring the rugged coastline and stunning dolerite columns, you'll appreciate the convenience of returning to a comfortable hotel or guesthouse with proper amenities.Couples looking for a relaxing escape after their adventures will find Port Arthur suitable. Many accommodations offer views of the bay or are located within quiet bushland, providing a peaceful retreat.
When is the best time to go to Cape Pillar?
The best time to go to Cape Pillar is during the warmer months, specifically from October to April, to take advantage of the most favourable weather conditions for hiking. This period generally offers mild temperatures, less rainfall, and longer daylight hours, which are all crucial for enjoying the multi-day Cape Pillar Track. While you might still encounter some changeable weather, as is common in Tasmania, these months provide the highest likelihood of clear skies and comfortable hiking.Couples looking for a romantic and adventurous getaway will find these months ideal. The stunning coastal scenery is at its best under brighter skies, making for memorable photographs and enjoyable walks. The extended daylight allows for more relaxed hiking without feeling rushed, and the warmer weather makes evenings at the eco-friendly lodges more pleasant. For solo travellers seeking a challenging and rewarding personal journey, the shoulder seasons within this window – late October/November and March/April – can be particularly appealing. The trails might be less crowded than during peak summer, offering a more tranquil experience while still benefiting from good weather.
