The Deer Shed
This cozy hideout feels much bigger than the 600 square foot floor plan suggests. Located approximately eight miles west of Buffalo at the foothills on the Big Horn Mountains. It has 14 foot ceilings with a cozy wood stove and an unobstructed view of the mountains and wildlife. Deer are almost always passing by in the mornings and evenings. The DeerShed sleeps six with a queen bed in the bedroom, two twins in the loft and a futon in the living room. We have a few barn and outside animals on the property including two dogs, three cats, a horse & a couple pigs. The horse and pigs only reside in the summer months.

We spent most of our time doing things in the area so this place is perfect to stay at for us. Owners are very nice people and the pets are cool too. Close to town and the mountains.
This is a lovely place in a great location. A short drive from town. We LOVED the horses, dogs and kitties. The night sky is epic and Scott was very accommodating! There is a short drive on a well maintained dirt road.
Getting out of town for a peaceful stay was what we were looking for. The view was incredible. Everything that we needed was provided. Scott was a kind host who made it known that we could ask for something if there was anything else that we needed upon arrival. We enjoyed spending our mornings on the patio gazing at the majestic view. Seeing wild turkeys, dear, the horses, dogs, cats etc we're part of the beauty! .
Super Quiet, Amazing View and the night sky was INCREDIBLE!
Our children loved the horses, dogs and pig on the property.
We feel like we got a little taste of the Wyoming countryside.
Our 10 nights at the Deer Shed was a home away from home. Liz and Scott are the kindest hosts. The cabin was so clean, nicely designed, and filled with everything you will need: to cook, shower, do laundry, sleep, etc.... The view was so amazing! We spent a lot of time in the evening on the porch watching the sunset and the stars appear. We brought our spotting scope and it was a treat to see the antelope, turkeys, and herds of horses off in the distance. Sometimes their sweet dogs and cats would join us. The size of the cabin felt quite spacious with the tall ceilings, nice size kitchen and bathroom. Sleeping was so peaceful and I loved rolling over in bed in the morning and seeing the magnificent view of the foothills. It was the perfect location for us. Not too far from town for shopping, restaurants, etc., and a central spot to try the various hiking trails of the Bighorn range. Very peaceful and private, we highly recommend this beautiful place!
Space is small but for what we used it for was just fine. Easy enough to get to/from town and the hwy if you need to. Our son loved the loft. The main bed was ok we’re used to a memory foam and this was not but it was fine. The no tv was nice however if someone was staying longer you may want to know that. Property and view is awesome, horses and animals are friendly. Thanks Scott!!
A friend of mine found The Deer Shed on the VRBO website for our second visit to Buffalo for Longmire Days. I was originally hesitant, because I was afraid it was too small. It was actually perfect! We very much enjoyed the property. We weren’t there a whole lot, and when we were, we were sitting outside on the covered porch facing the mountains in the very comfortable Adirondack chairs provided. It was amazing sitting out there watching the colors change as the sun moved or a cloud formed. Most everything we needed was provided and something we didn’t know we needed was also provided. We very much enjoyed the binoculars the owners had available for our use. We saw deer almost every day. We also saw beautiful horses that seemed well taken care of on the neighbors property. We used the bedroom and the futon bed in the living room. There’s a lovely little bedroom upstairs for children. I was a little concerned about wildlife while driving the 8 miles from Buffalo in the dark, but it wasn’t bad at all. I just took my time and went slow. The owners fur babies were a treat as well. They come to visit at times, and made you feel at home. We were both glad we went with the deer shed as our base and would love to return at some point.
Cottage had a beautiful view of the mountains. Cabin was very well appointed and very clean. I highly recommend it.
... And the cats and dogs made you feel at home.
