Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Over all good place to stay and about 15 minutes walk to all the main attractions. It is 10 Euro from the train station by taxi. One thing concerning though, we had purchased train tickets to Paris as we arrived in Bruges for the following Sunday. However, even though the tickets went from the train station to our hotel room and not removed from there while we visited, they went missing. The night before leaving we noticed they were no longer in the room. What happened? We have no idea, but it might be a good idea to lock everything in the safe. If housekeeping throw away paperwork while cleaning, they should not do that and perhaps should be reminded of that.
