Great Location but beware their sister hotel!!!

We stayed at this Hotel Bourgoensch Hof on the 9th-12th July and location wise you can't fault it. We picked the hotel for this reason without fully appreciating how small Bruges is. The hotel itself is quite misleading - we booked through Hotels.com and felt a bit duped. We didn't actually stay in the hotel advertised on the website but in the more run down adjoining Hotel Erasmus, with a separate coded entrance which took you through a storeroom. Our room was small and after 3nights it was quite evident that we were looking forward to leaving. We booked a couple of months before staying and it cost us £277 (€350 at the rate when booked). This is quite a lot given that the sign in reception said standard double rooms from €59-€129 per night so we had effectively paid top whack for the smallest hotel room on our floor, no canal view, no breakfast and not even in the hotel we booked in. We requested a double room for our stay and we thought this would be ample given we planned to explore this beautiful ancient city. The disappointment came on the first night when it was evident that we were sleeping in a bed with two narrow single mattresses and two single duvets. The bathroom was very dated, clean enough but cramped. Toiletries weren't replenished and we had only taken hand luggage for a 4day break so were limited to the liquids took. Overall the hotel was poor. Sadly I think a Premier Inn/Travelodge in England is better quality and these are our budget hotels.
