Lots of quirks and character

We like places with character and this hotel had lots - we had a small attic room with painted furniture and a view of the canal, rather an uncomfortable thin mattress and annoying sheet/blanket combo. The bathroom was nice, quite modern and there was lots of very hot water. There was a big hole in one of our towels when we arrived! The hotel itself is rather like a museum - in a good way - old photos and paintings and a lovely dining room looking directly over the canal, with beautiful murals. However, I'm still shocked at being charged 6 euros for a small bottle of water which I asked for when we found ourselves without on our first night there. The cleaner was lovely and did a great job. The other staff varied from helpful to odd to rude. Great location, absolutely central and lovely building.
