Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. The room was nice, with a great view of the canal. By American standards the room was cool, set at 68, but the duvet was more than enough to keep warm. It is a very basic hotel, with very small rooms. The breakfast was quite good. You have to pay extra for things like a blow dryer, shampoo, extra pillows. Staff was nonexistent due to the fact it’s a self check in and self check out and the room was oversold. Room was very tiny and basic but having the canal view with swans swimming up to say hello each morning made it magical. The hotel was undergoing renovations but this did not impact our stay . Breakfast was adequate and coffee delicious. Hotel was walking distance to everything we wanted to explore in Bruges and convenient to use bus to central train/ bus station.
