Our stay here was a wonderful experience! The unit was pictured & described quite well on VRBO; there were just a few very minor inaccuracies. Portside Retreat was pleasant to stay in and felt safe. Host was great to work with: very accommodating, communicated well, responded promptly in VRBO messaging. Overall this is a very attractive, quiet, 1-bedroom apartment on ground level. Perfect for what we needed in a 2½-week stay! Some outdoor road noise, dogs, and trains were audible; but nothing was loud enough to be bothersome. The apartment's heat/AC system was quiet and worked great. Stacked washer/dryer was clearly much-used, but worked fine. The only issues we had were minor ones with initially getting the wifi & TV operational. I was able to resolve these on my own. Our only real disappointment was the bed, a Queen-size with very basic innerspring mattress. This was adequate — but Queen is definitely cramped for a couple, and feels more so with a subpar mattress. We would most definitely book this unit again in any future visit to Brownsville; but at that time a better mattress — preferably in a King-size — would be a VERY welcome upgrade! In summary: this property was everything my husband & I needed at a very reasonable price! 4.5 Stars.Postscript: Google created confusion about the apartment's exact location by pinning the address on the wrong building, both in the VRBO app map and in Google Maps. I messaged the host directly to verify the correct location.
