Great Wifi! Sit by the fire pit and watch the stars. plenty of firewood! Watch the eagles and osprey. Feed the chipmunks. Take a vacation from the world. Take a private yoga class with my exceptional Guru cleaning gal, Chessy. Lake Champlain- - 20 minutes to Middlebury-- A cute, 2 bedroom sweet, happy cottage. - gas fireplace, slate beach, stunning mountain sunsets, fire pit, A.C. of course - It's a great place to float and boat, or just sit and have a martini on the deck and stare at the mountains...breath-taking star gazing. There are 2 kayaks and a canoe! Ontheroadyoga.com Great fishing, bass and perch. Right off the shore or in the heavy duty canoe. -Check out the video- that says it all.. pretty simple! full kitchen, everything you need.... spices and olive oil. Private country road which dead ends... so no traffic noise. Just off Vermont Bike touring route. The lake has some weeds, not great swimming, although everybody seems to love floating, boating, fishing-- amazing beautiful drive to Middlebury- galleries, college, bistros- Pickle Ball and Tennis at the Middlebury Recreation Center..- waterfalls, hiking, Revolutionary forts across the bridge in NY State..good starting point for plenty of touring, but this is a place most people don't want to leave. Finish your novel here, or start one. lake breeze keeps the bugs at bay. A fascinating slate beach for beach combing- fossils, arrowheads. Due to the lake being so close to the house any bit of extra care for the septic tank is greatly appreciated... let it mellow if it's yellow? Organic soaps only. Cozy furniture, good mattresses, good lighting, great deck to grill and sit and eat and watch the mountains and the lake. Designed for romantics, artists, bibliophiles, quiet folk looking for a real escape hatch. I am a writer and painter and this place is quiet. i mean, quiet, except for the birds. Many guests get some good writing done they tell me. Maybe it's because the lake, so active, so changeable, is right at your door. And of course, it's Vermont. It's funky, artsy, colorful, eclectic. If there is a cobweb in the corner, say hello to the spider. It's a cottage on a lake- with loons, and eagles and foxes and, up the road - some cows!-- The wind blows through the windows, and in ten minutes there might be a bit of dust on the table. It is not a hermetically sealed tomb- you must go to The Marriott for that... Silent night: Most places, you hear distant traffic, or some kind of man-made noise, a dull vibrating hum, so that although you feel like you are really in the country, you aren't. This is the country. You hear the wind, the crickets, the birds, the squirrels, a fish jumping, and the achingly beautiful train whistle moaning across the lake twice a day. It's amazing to sit on the deck and watch the geese and the sunset and hear yourself breathing. Martini on the deck, reading Thomas Merton or Henry Miller, the lovely viewing of sailboats drifting by and bird watching is spectacular. Two bald eagles nest nearby! quiet fishing at an great inlet across the lake. This part of the lake hasn't many cottages on it, you look North and see only trees for a couple of miles, so you don't feel like other people are breathing down your neck. There are two neighbors hidden away up the road if you need to borrow a cup of sugar, but you would never know they're there and a cottage up the hill. Apple and berry picking in the late summer and fall. I know where the private swimming holes are up in the mountains if it gets really hot. Also a terrific river falls near Middlebury. You WILL be happy here if you love to hike, canoe, bird watch, bike, sit and watch the sunset, play scrabble, read, write, cook, grill, take little day trips to Vermont towns, tour micro-breweries, sleep, have fires on the beach, build slate castles, do art, walk, talk to chipmunks. -- I like to chat a bit with potential guests so that I can answer questions in a more personal way!! I want everyone to be happy. NOTE: holding tank septic situation. The low flush toilet is not designed for lots of TP. Wastebasket provided for extra needed!! - Part of the equation, cottage so close to the lake and on a ledge!! Thanks for your help!! The cottage is decorated like a house, but it's a cottage about 5 feet from the lake. There is no washer dryer, no dish washer, it's lovely but pretty basic at the same time. pick up and drop off laundry service is available!! ## Property amenities ### Beach - On the beach - Beach loungers ### Ski - Close to skiing - Ski-in/ski-out access ### Internet - Available in the house: Free WiFi ### Parking and transport - Car required - Wheelchair-accessible parking available ### Kitchen - Blender - Coffee/tea maker - Cookware, dishware, and utensils - Hob - Microwave - Oven - Paper towels - Refrigerator - Spices - Toaster ### Dining - Dining table ### Bedrooms - 2 bedrooms ### Bathroom - 1 bathroom - Bathtub or shower - Hair dryer - Shampoo - Soap - Toilet paper ### Living spaces - Dining table - Fireplace - Living room ### Entertainment - Books - Games ### Outdoor areas - Barbecue grill - Firepit - Outdoor furniture - Patio ### Work spaces - Desk ### Comfort - Air conditioning - Heating ### Pets - Pet friendly - Welcoming dogs only - Up to 23 kg per pet ### Suitability/Accessibility - If you have requests for specific accessibility needs, please contact the property using the information on the reservation confirmation received after booking. - 2 accessible parking spaces - No lift (single-level property) - Wheelchair-accessible parking - Smoke-free property - Note from host: no exceptions! ### Services and conveniences - Housekeeping (on request) ### Location highlights - In a rural location - In a village - In the city centre - In the mountains - On a lake - On the waterfront ### Things to do - Kayak - Optional golf privileges - Ski-in/ski-out access - Tennis - Birdwatching nearby - Fishing nearby - Golfing nearby - Hiking/biking trails nearby - Horseback riding nearby - Hunting nearby - Ice skating nearby - Mountain biking nearby - Mountain climbing nearby - Sledding nearby - Water tubing nearby - Winery tours nearby ### Safety features - Carbon monoxide detector (host has indicated there is a carbon monoxide detector on the property) - Smoke detector (host has indicated there is a smoke detector on the property) - First aid kit - Fire extinguisher ### General - Housekeeping (on request) - Property does not allow children - Unit size: 1,311 square feet ## Similar properties ![Property grounds](https://images.trvl-media.com/lodging/32000000/31950000/31948900/31948888/6a182ab5.jpg?impolicy=fcrop&w=469&h=201&p=1&q=medium) ### Cozy Cottage on Beautiful Lake Champlain. Absolutely adored the character and charm of this lovely cottage on the lake that had everything we could possibly have needed for a relaxing and restoring break. It took a few crazy windstorms to remove us from the glorious deck/shore view and watching all the wildlife (while munching on delish cheese curds from the creamery up the road). I will definitely be back! ##### Nicolle B. This cottage is the perfect if you want peace and quiet. It was perfect for the two of us. We enjoyed the area and did a variety of outings. I love the artistic flair of the owner. We think our boxer(Abby) had an even better time than us. The cottage has all that you need and then some. The boat and paddles were in great condition. The views are something that I can not describe. We will be back! Thanks Laurel! ##### Shane H. ### 8/10 Good #### Cate C. 26 Aug 2024 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### This place is SOOO CUTE and the View is to Die For! This is an adorable cottage. Rustic but adequate. There's a porch overlooking the lake and the sunsets were gorgeous. It's surrounded by beautiful farmland and near the college town of Milford with restaurants and art etc. We did have rain 3 out of the 5 days but even then it was nice especially when the sun blasted through illuminating the greenest grass I've ever seen. There's only (1) Queen bed and (1) twin and the bathroom is small and the shower very small, but we were there for the view and that we got! The host is super friendly and helpful with suggestions etc. I'd go back in a heartbeat. ##### Cate C. Stayed 6 nights in Aug 2024 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Gary K. 27 Aug 2018 #### A Lakeside Oasis With a View Wow! What a charming cottage with a funky, uber-relaxed feel. A true lake house vibe with all that entails--sit on the porch and watch the boats go by, splash in the lake, build a campfire on the beach and count the stars. This is a great place to unwind and put your feet up. The location is very private, yet close to the charms of Middlebury when you want to grab a good meal or do a bit of shopping. Laurel is such a charming "land lady" (ha!) and a great hostess. We had a wonderful time and are looking forward to a return visit. ##### Gary K. Stayed 3 nights in Aug 2018 ### 10/10 Excellent #### Pamela P. 25 Jul 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Idyllic retreat Everything about this visit was exactly right. The owner was personable and quick to communicate, the setting was exactly as described and the house was comfortable. Located almost IN the lake, we were well entertained watching eagles, cormorants and terns fishing. My husband discovered HUGE bass just fishing from shore and our water dog was in heaven just paddling along the shore for hours. The local grocery store was adorable and had anything you needed. It is just a short trip to Middlebury for lunch or golf (beautiful course at the college - open to the public) and bucolic scenery all around. What more could you ask for! We will definitely stay here again. ##### Pamela P. Stayed 7 nights in Jul 2023 This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Beverly P. 24 Jun 2017 #### Beautiful spot and fun, funky cabin This was a great place to stay with our family (kids 7 & 9). The view is exactly as pictured. We loved taking the kids out on the canoe and relaxing on the deck looking at the lake and mountains. The kids enjoyed skipping stones and splashing in the water, though it is not a great swim spot which was clear from the listing as well. It was super hot (over 90) and Laurel provided a portable AC unit which was helpful to cool down the whole cabin. The kids slept fine in the smaller bedroom on the twin bed and the provided air mattress. The place is rustic and it is not spotless but don't go there expecting a Ritz and you will enjoy. ##### Beverly P. Stayed 2 nights in Jun 2017 This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Mary P. 15 Sept 2015 #### Perfect weekend getaway! My weekend was exactly as I hoped for and more than I expected. Charming, scenic, cozy and private. It was an adorable cottage with all the amenities and facilities that a couple could require. We enjoyed gathering wood for our private bonfires at the beach (purchased some local too since we had a fire every day and night!). We cooked over the open fire, paddled ourselves down the shoreline in a light rain, and played board games on the deck while enjoying the lake views and sunsets. Just perfect. A Bonus.....the surrounding area was like driving through a New England calendar. A spontaneous visit to the nearby Alpaca farm and Morgan Horse farm was an extra treat. Laurel has a gem and I look forward to going back for a longer stay next year. Thank you!! ##### Mary P. This review was submitted before 2018 and has not been verified. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Jan S. 24 Oct 2016 #### bohemian, romantic, perfect getaway Read the owner's description and you will get a flawless picture of the cabin (and of her :-). This cozy cottage totally lives up to its billing. It's secluded (but Middlebury and Vergennes are not far away). It's quiet, apart from the occasional early-morning fisherman speeding to his favourite spot and the lonesome, distant train whistle). All the basics are there (kitchen, beds, books, indoor plumbing, electricity, wifi), and it comes with all sorts of wonderful de luxe extras, like lake views, distant hills, passing herons, and nearby eagles. We paddled around on the lake, relaxed on the stony beach, took day trips, and slept soundly all night through. The owner's eclectic decoration scheme charmed us (including the the fairy lights everywhere), and we felt comfy and at home until (sadly and far too soon) we had to pack and go home. We've already recommended Camp Casey to local friends who need a place to get away from the big city (\*smile\* that is, Burlington), and we'd recommend it to anyone else who wants a quiet, funky place to enjoy the lake. ##### Jan S. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Beth B., Marlborough 4 Sept 2019 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Cute, quaint and cozy This is a traditional, rustic lake cottage and a throwback to a softer time. Most of my time was spent on the large deck overlooking the lake, enjoying the 180 degree view. It's partially covered, so you can sit on it in the rain. The sunsets provide a 2-hour constantly changing canvas of color and shapes. The inside of the cottage is open, light and airy with big windows, comfortable seating and beds. and all kinds of artwork, antiques and books. This is a great place to stay no matter the weather or your mood. It's the perfect tranquil spot if you're looking to unwind or have a romantic getaway. Adding to the enjoyment of your stay is Laurel, the host. She is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet -- very bright, quirky, funny, and kind. She's an artist and former professional singer/performer who has put a lot of artistic touches and time, effort and care into making the cottage and its environment a beautiful and magical respite. ##### Beth B. The pans in the kitchen were not clean. The bed was uncomfortable, had only one pillowcase, and apparently had unchanged linens. Based on her personal and written remarks it is clear that the cabin is not necessarily cleaned between rentals. We were expected to take our garbage to a dump somewhere which was open only on Saturdays. In the evenings, if the wind was blowing our way, we could smell the dairy farm not far away. We would not rent this cabin again. ### 10/10 Excellent #### Kate G. 26 Jul 2023 Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication, location, listing accuracy #### Transported back in time… What a beautiful little place… if you grew up spending lots of time in the Catskills and Adirondacks like I did, it will feel like home. The views of the lake and sunset cannot be beat, and the cabin is decorated so lovingly and with such pizazz (Laurel’s artisti talent is clear). And the BOOKS… so many books to leaf through. I reserved this rental for myself, my husband, and our two dogs with the plan of exploring nearby towns but mostly relaxing and reading (which I never seem to be able to do at home…), and it did not disappoint. I did not go in the lake since VT had recently had a lot of rainfall/flooding, but there were two kayaks ready to go if we needed them. There’s no TV, but the wifi is fast, so you can stream on your laptop or tablet if you really must… but I recommend you sit outside and watch the hummingbirds whiz past while the chipmunks snack on their peanuts only a few feet away. Laurel is a lovely host— she really wants you to enjoy the house and nearby area, and she is so responsive; I was sorry I did not get to meet her in person. I hope we can return next summer for longer. Being there made me feel like a kid again. A really special place. ##### Kate G. Laurel's little compound on the lake was perfect - exactly what we wanted for a week away from the city. We spent a LOT of time on the porch which overlooks the lake - amazing sunsets, tons of wildlife (eagles!) and very little boat traffic. When not lounging, we used her canoe and my paddle board to explore the area, checked out a couple of great little nearby towns and consumed a lot of maple-syrup-containing products. The house itself is filled with books and artwork and we found it to be very comfortable. Visiting in July, we never had to turn on the AC, as the evenings are cool and there are lots of fans around. And I have to give a special mention to the kitchen. I love to cook and have never been to a rental that was so well-equipped. Even the knives were sharp. I think this is because it's Laurel's home which she graciously gives up so that others can enjoy her oasis. We had some minor problems with the wifi (problems stemmed from the provider's end, not the house) but communication with Laurel was super easy, as she was just staying next door. All is all we can't wait for a return visit. ##### Sally R. We couldn't be happier with the whole experience. The cabin was clean, inviting and decorated in a fun and creative way. The view over the lake was exactly what we were looking for and we spent long hours on the deck enjoying quiet mornings and spectacular sunsets. We were in the lake every day swimming, tubing, kayaking, and canoeing. Our dog (a large Bernese Mountain Dog) felt right at home and, while not a big swimmer, paddled around happily in the shallows while we were in the water. A couple of evenings we built a bonfire on the shore and made s'mores - a big favorite with the kids. We spent a lot of time reading, drawing, and playing cards and board games. We visited the nearby store (15 mins drive) a few times for supplies and drove to Middlebury (30 mins) for takeout, coffee, and browsing the excellent, dog-friendly bookstore (a big surprise!). We did two side trips - one to Fort Ticonderoga (excellent) and another to Six Flags (for the kids) and Lake George (for the dog). Laurel was an excellent host: welcoming, helpful, but not at all intrusive. We thoroughly recommend this cabin for anyone looking for a real lakeside getaway. ##### Helen D.
