Finest Retreats | Dolwar Cottage

Nestled in the incredible Snowdonia National Park, this historic cottage is quirky, full of character, and has excellent mountain views. With a unique spiral staircase and a wonderful cottage garden to capture the imagination, Dolwar Cottage is a fantastic hidden gem from which to explore North Wales.

On the ground floor, there is a welcoming living room, with sofas and armchair to sink into and the television perched in the decorative range - still in situ from when the room was the original kitchen! With views from the back of the house out across the garden and to the mountains beyond, this is a great space to relax after your day of adventures.

On a lower ground floor level, the kitchen-dining room is equally characterful, with the dining space having a door out to the garden at the rear, dining table to seat four, and two additional stools at the breakfast bar if needed. The kitchen is very well equipped having a washing machine, dishwasher, gas hob, electric oven, fridge and freezer.

Upstairs, the bedrooms, one king size and one double, both enjoy beautiful far reaching views and have original fireplaces intact which make lovely decorative features. Continuing up to the top of the spiral staircase, there is a further room up on the second floor with skylight views, and lots of games and puzzles. The bathroom is also up on this floor, with a stunning corner bath and traditional handheld shower, fantastic for relaxing in peace and winding down.

The garden, nicely secluded with mature greenery, has two separate patio areas, the largest having dining table and chairs, and a smaller one at the end of the garden with bistro table and chairs, great for sitting out and enjoying balmy evenings.

Locally, there is a staggering amount to choose from when planning what to see and do. Llan Ffestiniog is a bustling village with local convenience store, historic church and friendly pub Y Pengwern. The larger town of Blaenau Ffestiniog is within easy reach, with it's popular railway, and the Llechwedd Slate Caverns and Zipworld only a short distance away.

Whether you love hiking, mountain biking and outdoor activities, or exploring the stunning coastline there is sure to be something for everyone. Mount Snowdon, or Yr Wyddfa to use it's proper Welsh name, is less than 20miles distant and the surrounding area offers plenty of walking routes and beautiful lakes amongst the mountains just waiting to be discovered.

Criccieth Beach, Harlech Beach and Black Rock Sands are all roughly 30 minutes away, and with Anglesey just the other side of the mountain, you'll be spoilt for choice.

Please note there is a travel cot and highchair available to use on request, please mention when booking.

Nice location for touring North Wales. Kitchen had everything we needed. Very cozy. There were quite a few cobwebs.

Lovely home from home stay, lots of little things made this place special. Milk in the fridge when we arrived, Welsh cakes ready and heating was on 😁 Nothing all was great

Lovely property in quiet village.

Lovely views from the rear of the property. You definitely need a car to get to places and the local pub isn’t much to be desired unfortunately. However, local people were friendly and the property was very comfortable and warm. We would definitely stay again if we were returning to the area.

Lovely short break away

Had a lovely stay at Dolwar cottage. Enjoyed playing board ganes with the kids and went on a couple of great walks nearby. Cottage clean and beds comfy. Really cosy place to relax. Thanks

Lovely quirky little cottage

Location was good The garden definitely needs landscaping, it was unusable as so overgrown & such a shame as the views would be beautiful from the windows

A little cottage

The cottage was well furnished with comfy seating and beds. The garden was overgrown and so we couldn't sit out on the warm evenings. There was a slight smell of damp coming up from the basement kitchen. This was noticeable after the cottage was shut up for the day.

Perfect

Great little gem, hidden away yet in a perfect spot. Lovely welcome pack and little details which added to the experience. The space is deceptively big and loved the separation. Beds were excellent and the kitchen well equipped. Lots to love and will come back. The lack of a traditional shower was not a major issue but we felt the amount of water to fill a bath due to large size of the tub seemed a waste of water (from a sustainable viewpoint)

Wet well equipped cottage

Excellent cottage, very comfortable, warm and welcoming. Very well equipped kitchen, great views and ideal for exploring. If you are 6ft + like 2 in our party, get used to brushing your head on low ceilings and staircase on the lower ground floor.

Everything except the lilliputuan proportions

Everything except the lilliputuan proportions. If you&#39re above 5ཆ'' you&#39ll need to watch yourself. Kitchen is really nicely furnished, nice tough having both milk and oat &#39milk' in the fridge on arrival. Really liked the old fireplaces, comfortable couches. Beds are a bit short if like me you&#39re quite tall, but I wasn&#39t scared that a monster was going to steal my dangling off the edge feet, they were however extremely comfortable and i slept incredibly well.. And the views were absolutely astonishing. . The bathroom wasn&#39t ideal for me. Low sloping ceiling and my proclivity for banging my head made this room less than ideal. But if you&#39re a normal person who&#39s aware of their own size, I don&#39t think it&#39d be too much of a problem.
