Clovelly is lovely but I would recommend a maximum of 2 nights, and you’d best hope the weather is good as it would be limited fun in bad weather. The food is good and eating outside on the harbor wall was lovely. The service is patchy and they don’t clean rooms currently (Covid regulations) which is a real shame, and it means no fresh towels etc. the breakfast tray is lovely, but again we left it outside our room and it wasn’t cleared for two days. All in all, a good experience and we would recommend to others. It's an older building but well maintained and clean throughout. The room we had was in the main building, quite small for a double, but perfectly adequate for a short stay, with a good sized bathroom. The views from the bedroom window are amazing and worth staying for them alone. An incredible vista of the harbour and surrounding sea and beach. Breakfast was extra at £12.50 each. Good selection and well cooked, with friendly service from the waiting staff. The road down to the hotel is windy and steep and it does feel as you re heading into the sea! Don't be put off though, it is totally worth it. The Red Lion is amazing. The staff are incredibly welcoming and helpful, the service is exceptional. The position right on the harbour is perfect. I highly recommend the Red Lion, a stay here is really special, borne out by a number of returning honeymooners. The only downside is the size of the room we had (extremely small with a double not king bed, little room for luggage) and the 2 steps down to the bathroom, which could be pretty unsafe in the dark. Also did not get any help with our luggage up and down stairs and over the cobbles in the car park. The road down to the hotel is very narrow, it's best to ask the hotel jeep to go up in front of you so you don't struggle with passing vehicles. We absolutely loved our stay with the Red Lion Hotel in Clovelly. The service was exceptional - from the gentleman who helped direct us where to park our car (away from the stormy ocean), to the helpful woman at the front desk. We also really appreciated the staff at the restuarant within the hotel, who were exceptional, and made us smile with each interaction. The location of this hotel cannot be beat - right on the seafront in Clovelly. It was pure magic! We happened to visit during the height of Storm Alex and the staff helped to set our minds at ease so that we could enjoy watching the spectacular display. The room was huge, very comfortable, and extremely clean.
