PRIVATE WATERFRONT RETREAT MINUTES FROM ACADIA~ Island life at its BEST!
THE WAY LIFE SHOULD BE...
Duck Duck Goose is a serene retreat that allows its guest to be completely ensconced in the traditional Maine way of life. This carriage house, tucked away in the Maine woods, sits on the edge of Duck Cove, overlooking Blue Hill Bay and all of its lovely islands. The privacy and beauty allow for quiet walks along the rocky coast beach, sitting on the private dock viewing a delightful sunrise or sunset, and viewing stars that can only be seen in the Maine skies. Located on the quiet side of Mount Desert Island allows for seclusion and reflection while still having the small towns within comfortable driving distance. Acadia National Park makes up the island of MDI and is a short drive away. The mountains to hike, roads to bike, and water to paddle or boat, make this location more special than most. This quaint carriage home was built in August 2012 and offers a comfortable, warm cottage feeling with all the makings of your own home. The first floor living space includes your entry, laundry, full bath, family room and bedroom with two double beds, not to mention three sets of lovely French doors never leaving you without a view of the water that lead out to a very large Maine style porch complete with rocking chairs and wicker furniture to enjoy. In 2025 a major deck expansion was added that included a new level of outdoor space as well as an outdoor kitchen to enjoy your sunrise coffee or prepare lobsters for the family fresh from the ocean. The second floor invites you to its grand living/dining space with overhead loft and open kitchen, allowing all guests to be near. There are also two bedroom on this floor, one with queen bed and the other with 2 twins. The bathroom provides a soaking tub, a separate shower, a private loo and forest views. Every room has dimmed lighting, comfortable seating, water views and immaculate furnishings. The dining table hosts 8 all the while taking in the ocean breezes and the beautiful outdoors. The upstairs deck has just been added to allow sunset cocktails and star viewing while listening to the ocean breezes and waves. Not one stone was left unturned. While relaxing in the warm comforts indoors, you will still want to find your way outdoors. Along the carriage home leading to the water is a lovely forest trail which includes a fireside retreat as well as ocean front dining. Enjoy your cocktails listening to the tide wash up on the rocks, or build a fire and grab your marshmallows to roast. Further enjoy a wonderful private dock where you can sunbathe, enjoy your morning coffee or put your boat into the water and go for a paddle. It's hard to decide where you want to be, inside or out, but this Maine carriage home awaits your company. Wifi included along with smart TV's.
***** A three car garage on the first floor of the cottage is an owner's garage and is not accessible for renters use. If you desire to bring canoes or kayaks, they are safe and secure near the waters edge. If you wish to bring bicycles, they are safe within our private community and may be sheltered from in-climate weather under our back porch.

What a wonderful location to enjoy all the beauties of Maine. Sara was an excellent host and went out of her way to make our trip special. The house is absolutely gorgeous and fully stocked to make it feel like a home away from home. A must stay!
We stayed in this beautiful home for a few days in April just after the park opened. We arrived a bit earlier than expected & were greeted by our host, Sara, and her dog, Austin (who always stays outside). While Sara tended to the house, we sat by the water, played fetch with Austin & enjoyed the amazing view. Once inside, Sara took care of every detail with a hand-written note detailing her favorite hikes in the area & restaurant recommendations. Laundry room, bathroom, living room & bedroom on the ground floor. 2 bedrooms, bathroom, living room & kitchen upstairs. Over the next few days, we spent most our time in the park (about 20-30 min drive). After dinner in Bar Harbor, we came back to the house & enjoyed sitting outside in the evening. The star gazing was unreal! Overall, a beautiful home in a quiet, secluded area on the waterfront. Sara was a fantastic host & was available by text for any questions/issues. Highly recommend booking your stay here! Would love to come back!
This property can be described with just three words - privacy, peace and tranquility. If your vacation goal is to recharge your battery, then this is the place for you. The ducks will be there each morning to greet you and maybe even a couple of sea otters! I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet getaway.
We had a wedding around the corner from this beautiful cottage. We were lucky enough to find this cottage and book it It was right on the water and everything needed inside and outside there was a dock and a fire pit and we both
We so greatly enjoyed our stay! This property is extremely private, and on the water with dock access and a stunning view. The waterfront side of the house has a fire pit, bench seating, a huge round table, and a charming bench swing from which to enjoy the melodies of the loons, and the other delightful sights and sounds the ocean cove provides. The home itself is beautifully designed; airy, light, inviting, and well-outfitted! While there is a lot to do and see at Acadia nearby, staying at this property is a vacation in itself; a restorative experience!
My husband and I took our family to Maine for the first time this summer and had the good fortune of staying in Sara’s well appointed home. Everything we could need from games to kitchen supplies were considered and top notch. The atmosphere of the home was warm and we all felt right at home. Right on the water, you could watch the tide come and go. Our children loved exploring the coastline and we all gathered around the bonfire in the evenings after long days of hiking and enjoying the beauties of the park. There are certainly perks to staying on the slower side of the island and avoiding some of the crowds. The less crowded trails on this side are also nice and boast amazing views as well! The drive to Bar Harbor wasn’t bad, usually 30min, and we scheduled our activities and dinner reservations around the times we wanted to head that way.
Duck Duck Goose provided us with some really amazing views and outdoor activities. We loved star gazing from the dock, napping beside the water in the comfy hammock and fun filled fire pit nights roasting marshmallows. The kitchen was well stocked. The living room was cozy and the puzzle was a great touch that we all participated in. The dining room table was large enough for all of us to sit for dinner and game night. We did find the curtain-less/blind-less windows in the upstairs bedrooms and bathroom a bit uncomfortable. Although the house is in a private area there are neighbors who we easily saw going to/from the dock from the bedroom/bathroom windows so not having any privacy to use the bathroom or change in the bedrooms made it uncomfortable. The French doors that lead off of the upstairs living area do not have an attached deck. At the time of our stay the downstairs deck was not complete. There is an open doorway from the deck with ropes strung across that leads down into the rocks so this might be a hazard for small children. The completed deck area is a lovely spot. Acadia and Bar Harbor are a short drive away.
We had a great trip to Maine and the DUCK DUCK GOOSE house is set in an amazing serene beautiful setting. We woke up when the sun rose and went to sleep when the sun set. Beautiful sunsets and sunrises to watch each day even with different weather days.. Rocky beach had lots of climbing adventures for the kids .Being on the quiet side of the island was great. We were able to get to everything easily. Southwest Harbor is nearby for some good food.
Great location and house!
This home is beautiful inside and out and very comfortable. Sara is very helpful and warm. The property, with its waterfront views, direct access and dock to the protected ocean is spectacular. Our family loved every minute spent on the water- jumping, swimming, reading and kayaking off the floating dock. We loved the fire pit and star gazing in the evening. We enjoyed walking the nearby trails, driving to close restaurants and nearby attractions. It let us immerse ourselves in the beauty of Maine, the peace and quiet of the home and its property as well as the hikes, dining and shopping at all the popular Acadia spots. We were visited by a small family of river otters who put on a sweet little show for us as we sat on the dock. A real treasure.
From booking this property to checking out, the entire experience was clear, convenient, and very enjoyable. The location is perfect; a quiet and secluded waterfront piece of land that is perfect to get away from it all and have a relaxing vacation. Also the house itself was pristine and well stocked with all the essentials. Truly a slice of heaven, and a wonderful getaway destination.
Our second visit to this peaceful home was even more splendid than our first. We were so happy the last time that we stayed even longer this time, and were still so sorry to have to leave. Sara maintains and improves her beautiful home; she’s wonderfully responsive and welcoming. Her home’s wonderful setting, with woodlands down to the ocean, makes a spectacular retreat. Kayaking from the private dock, we encountered bald eagles, seals, and porpoises. Grill and eat dinner by the ocean; stay warm by the campfire. Bright indoor spaces make even rainy days a treat. We never even made it to Acadia National Park because we were so enthralled by the property and the quiet side of the island. But Acadia is there when you want it. Already planning our next trip!
Duck duck goose was such a beautiful property for my family and I to enjoy exploring Maine! From searching for sea glass, to sipping wine and coffee by the water, to exploring the on property trails, this house has it all!!! I highly recommend staying here and we will most definitely be back in the near future. I truly feel like my kids made memories here that they will take with them their entire lives. Sara is an awesome person and was so willing to answer any and all questions for my family and I in regards to sights around Bar Harbor that were must sees. We are so grateful for this amazing trip and so blessed to be able to stay here at Duck Duck Goose! Truly the most beautiful scenery I had ever scene! 💖
Such a special place to spend vacation time with family. We loved that it was a remote, wooded setting on a beautiful ocean front cove yet not too far from towns. We made a campfire each night, rented stand up boards for exploring the local waters in the mornings, hiked the many trails of Acadia during the days, made dinners in, went out a few nights. And the stars were incredible! The house is beautiful and well maintained and we all agreed it was one of the best vacations we've had together. Looking forward to returning again next year!
Nature’s Beauty, Privacy, and Quiet on Mount Desert Island
One goes to Mount Desert Island to enjoy nature - spectacular ocean views, hiking, boating, birding, and a bit of solitude. This lovely home allows one to enjoy all of MDI’s beauty on property in utter privacy, hosted by the extremely responsive and helpful owner Sara, who will give you personalized tips about where to explore, shop, and eat. The home itself has a lovely great room with floor to ceiling windows, a great ocean breeze, a large bathtub, a nicely laid out kitchen, and again, utter privacy.
A pleasant half hour drive gets one to Bar Harbor’s shops and Acadia National Park and its mountain trails, Park Loop Road, ocean path, and carriage roads — but also in summer many people, many cars, few parking spaces. In about fifteen minutes, one can easily get to the less touristed town of Southwest Harbor, with its shops, restaurants, and the island’s outstanding lobster piers - no traffic, ample parking.
Though we came for Acadia, after a few days of exploring the park and tiring of the crowds, we actually spent much of our time on this property, enjoying its mature Maine woods right down to the ocean from its perfectly situated swing or bench, cooking superbly fresh fish on the grill and eating it outdoors, enjoying a twilight camp fire in the fire pit, and watching the stars from the private dock. We rented a kayak for the week and paddled out daily, grateful to launch from the dock into the somewhat sheltered cove, and thence out to the sea, admiring a bald eagle, broad-shouldered hawk, porpoises, seals, and sea birds along our route, staring all the while at Blue Hill Bay and MDI’s outlying islands. We were so happy we chose the Quiet Side of the island and even happier that we chose this house. We are already planning our next stay.
We stayed at Duck Duck Goose for 4 night in July 2020 with our family (5 adults and 1 infant). The house is beautiful and secluded, exactly as shown in the pictures. It's located on Duck Cove on the western portion of Mt Desert Island and close to Southwest Harbor. The outdoor space was perfect for campfires, grilling and star gazing at night. Indoors, there was plenty of space for everyone with updated accommodations. Sara was also incredibly responsive and had great suggestions for our time in Maine. She is great!! The only downside is we couldn't stay longer :)
Duck, Duck...Goose was an excellent choice for our family girls trip. Sara (owner) was amazing to work with, full of suggestions, and very responsive. The location is great for access to both Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor. The property and house are beautiful. The property provides direct access to a rocky beach and the ocean. We thoroughly enjoyed taking morning and evening strolls. We even saw a seal lounging on a rock just off the coast. The property also offers an outdoor swing perfect for morning coffee views as well as a firepit perfect for shared family laughs and conversations while taking in the phenomenal views of the night sky. Our group, aged 9 yrs to 62 yrs, loved every moment and would recommend this property to anyone vacationing in Bar Harbor, Acadia, or Southwest Harbor.
We had a marvellous weekend staying in this property. It was a perfect getaway for my husband and I, together with our son and his girlfriend. The house is extremely well suited to two couples or families as there are main bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs and upstairs and a third bedroom which we didn't use. The area is charming, peaceful and completely quiet, and the waterfront access is beautiful. We ate breakfast each morning at the table and chairs down by the water, watching the birds and wildlife, and loved walking out on the jetty, and at night we had a marvellous fire in the fire-pit, under the stars. The house itself is lovely and well equipped, with a great view over the water, terrific kitchen, comfortable beds and lots of thick towels to use. Only a few minutes drive to beautiful walks like Ships Harbor and Wonderland, 15 minutes drive to great restaurants in South West Harbor, to Beal's Lobster Pier or to rent a boat for the day, and only a few minutes more to Cadillac Mountain, Jordan Pond, Lomg Pond, etc. We could not have had a better time!
