Highly recommend as an excellent value option. This is a large hostel with many students and adults staying. Very lively and fun environment. Lobby is great meeting place. The building is very well staffed and they are exceptionally helpful. We stayed during the June 2026 heat wave. No air conditioning was an issue, but staff made fans available. Helps if you appreciate people and don’t mind night activity.

We enjoyed our stay here and it was quite busy with travelers. It was quiet though we were not bothered by the crowds or noise. The laundry room was a bit hard to find there wasn't much signage telling you exactly where it was, it was a little challenging with an app you had to download but we figured it out.

Pizza machine on site is pretty convenient. Also, the soccer on the big screen 24/7 is a nice down time activity. If you don't mind walking, Berlin Central train station is 15 minutes away.

Good : - Plenty of common space on ground floor - Plenty of vending machines (pizza, snacks, drinks...) - Serves food and drinks too Bad : - No AC, I was there during extra hot day : 36 degres day/ 20 degres night, and not hot day : 23 degres day/10 degres night... just couldn't sleep - Horrible airflow in rooms (for 8), the two windows only allow small gap... we were in a stinky sauna... Small fans were provided, but to bottom bunk beds, I was in top... - No towel provided (extra 1,9€) - The locker space (under the bed) didn't have a locker provided, also mine was on a angle that couldn't let me open it... nice - The bed comes with 1 usb-c and one usb-a but not poweroutlet... can't make much of it, not enough poweroutlet in the room neither, had to fight wih plugged fans already... Conclusion : do not come if it you enjoy proper air, regardless of the temperature of Berlin...

This was an ok place to stay not far from Berlin central station. However, quite costly on this particular night. Staff were not friendly, room was not clean and only one bathroom available with a toilet for 8 people. I’ve stayed in similar places in Germany which were much cleaner with better facilities.

Worth a try

We were very surprised to learn this was a hostel, rather than a hotel. That said, our stay was good. It was close to the train station, Breakfast was good, it was busy with students but overall, it turned out to be a good place to stay.

Only complain is the noise between 1am to 3am, people laughing/talking out loud on the halls, but is manageable. Close to the Train station and bus was a plus. Area is really safe and can see people walking late during the night.

We did not realize this facility was a youth hostel since it was listed as “hotel”. However, we had a nice but utilitarian room. It was good for our needs. However, it is in a residential area so if you are looking for shops, restaurants or nightlife the train station is your only option.

We stayed at this hostel in December and unfortunately we had an unpleasant experience: we were bitten by some insects during the night. The team reassured us that it wasn’t bed bugs, but it was still quite stressful. On the positive side, the staff reacted very quickly and professionally — they moved us to another room straight away and even provided special anti-bed-bug bedding (I didn’t even know such a thing existed!). In the new room everything was fine and we had no further bites. However, the situation scared us so much that when we returned home we had to steam-treat all our textiles, just in case. I really appreciate the hotel’s support and responsiveness, but it was definitely a worrying experience.

Overall A&O represents the modern hostel, cheap accommodation, but no spirit. They haven’t updated their self-check in to accommodate Expedia which would have helped them out as they were swamped at check- in, but the staff on hand seemed to manage. Their common area washroom was under repair and the shower head in my bathroom shower could only point to the wall and nowhere else. Everything else was good though, but don’t expect to meet a lot of people as they don’t push that aspect a lot.
