Excellent hotel, next to peaceful park
Fantastic hotel, peaceful, Professional staff, delicate breakfast buffet and gym with great view! - next door to peaceful park
I stayed for 2 nights, breakfast was decent but pricey, also had a late supper in the Chinese restaurant downstairs, it was actually pretty good. My room located at the end of 3rd floor which was nice and clean. One thing bothered me quite a bit was during my staying, the 3rd floor hallway had very strong cigarette smoking smell near the elevator, it was horrible since it's a non-smoking 5 star hotel.
Breakfast was a problem. It was not included for a high cost. The additional charge was 160 yuan, over £18. It was very difficult to get just a coffee and croissant, and this also was very expensive. Other hotels in China of equal standard give breakfast for a much lower overall cost.
No restuarants close by so either had to eat at hotel (costly) or take a taxi.
Hotel has beautiful lobby and very accommodating bellboys. Money changing easy but there is s $300 limit at a time. The room was spacious BUT hot. Could not set temperature lower even after asking maid. Biggest regret was not taking my own coffee as there was no free coffee in lobby but you could buy coffee after 8:00 at the bar for $3. The maids were sweet and cleaned every day. Language barrier not a big issue. Top reason for not giving 5 stars: I was charged for "polluting" their washcloths upon checkout. They charged 120 yuan (almost $20) for polluting 3 washcloths Their definition of polluting was that there was makeup on them. A natural result of using washcloths at bedtime and it did come out when we washed them by hand.
This is a good hotel, and especially convenient for visitors to Peking University (or Tsinghua probably). But despite being less than 10 years old it is showing some wear. I had no hot water the first evening, and the desk chair was broken (wouldn't go up/down so I was stuck with a chin-level work desk!)
a decent stay for business purpose, in terms of location it is not the best for sightseeing , but for work stuff no doubt it it great

A good hotel if you need to be close to campus...
I was staying at the Lake View Hotel for 5 nights for a business trip/global module at Peking University in Beijing. The hotel has a nice pool and spa. Facility is in good condition especially in the room which I'm upgraded to after not getting hot water in another guest room. Details of the hotel need more work. Not really up to 5 star standards. But staff is friendly and helpful.
Decided to stay in Haidian district this time and this hotel was recommended as it was near my meeting place. Hotel is owned by Peking University and across from Tsinghua university. This hotel represents my overall experience with China (I've traveled to China for work for over 4 years and no less than 100 trips) in a sense that it looks decent from the outside but inside is artificial and half-hearted. Room was old and not much attention to details when built. Furniture was old, faded and extremely dusty. Staff was all over the place. For example, asked the bell person to grab me a taxi, he asked me to wait and conveyed the message to the front desk who told me to wait and then repeatedly asked other front desk staff what to do with my taxi request. In the meanwhile, several empty taxis came and gone by the hotel driveway looking for guests but no one bother to flag them down. Food option offered at this hotel is definitely below average with American price. Wenjin is a better option if you have to stay in Haidian district near university area.
The location is a university setting which is very safe. Just wish closer by foot to other retail outlets. The hotel has the best pool and hot tubs of about any hotel I have stayed and they are open to 11pm each night and staffed. Also, many dining choices. Very limited wine choices with most out of stock the entire week.
L'hôtel est très bien mais l'ensemble des services sont proposés à des tarifs excessifs par rapport à la qualité (dont le restaurant, les massages). Accueil cordial mais d'aucune aide pour obtenir un taxi.
Hotel itself was beautiful. Room very nice, as nice as you would find anywhere. Staff very friendly and very helpful, but few spoke English. They helped arrange cabs and made great suggestions for walking tours of Beijing. Food in hotel excellent. The swimming pool and health club is first class. I would highly discourage renting a car, no parking anywhere and driving a little crazy. Location of hotel is not near shops or restaurants so taxi or subway necessary to get to downtown or other sites. Same for restaurants, only one about 2 blocks away. Taxis are bad but subway only $3 anywhere. The city itself is a bit grimy but the people are almost universally helpful and friendly. The historical sites are amazing. You can often find unofficial guides at the sites and strike a rate there. We were fortunate and had no smog.
This is a perfectly fine hotel to stay in if you have business at Peking University of one of the many in this area. It is nothing special, but certainly nice enough. It is too expensive for what it is.
When check-in, the receptionist could not find my reservation, she told me they didn't use hotels.com confirmation number. Later, it turned out that she didn't spell my name correctly. Without any apology, she insisted that I should tell her this was an expedia reservation instead of hotels.com...
The location is only good for people need to do business in the PekingU, but not for anything else. It is a few minutes walk from the main road, that requesting a taxi from the concierge would take 10 minutes to wait, and without guarantee it would come.
This hotel is a big cubic shape building, if you are luck enough to be assigned with a room that is at the end of the block just like me, congratulations, it would take you a couple of minutes of walk before you can catch the elevator.
The bathroom was not well cleaned with soap residue left on the side of basin, and the sink in the shower is clogged. The window couldn’t seam the noise from the street.
The air conditioning was not working for the first night of stay, and the power went off twice that no one noticed me during check-in, until I found a small notice on the table saying there would be power outage during the night for maintenance reasons in the next morning.
This is a terrible choice for a hotel in this price range, avoid in all cost.
