The hotel is incredible and decorations are on par with an art gallery or museum. The staff is quite nice and always try hard to help. Breakfast was better than expected. Only wish is they would have better electrical outlets by the bed. It also smells as if the room was smoked in despite the ban. I suppose people ignore the rules. What makes the hotel stand out is the location!! Literally steps from Tiananmen Square!!! Beware if you choose a street view or Forbidden City room, it can be veeeery noisy. Tour buses literally show up at 4:30am and let tourists out. The hotel itself is a bit old and some of that is evident in the room. We were told upon check-in that our room was being 'upgraded' to a 'suite' which simply meant we had a separate sitting room, but the room was so cold (heat did not work) that we were moved again. We got a Forbidden City view in the new room which was great, but the room itself was very aged and had a horrible smell (think dead mouse in the wall) near the door and moldy smelling bathroom. The beds were comfortable by China standards. The restaurant was extremely pricey so we chose not to dine there. The rooftop bar/terrace that they advertise in many pictures was closed and the terrace locked, so we couldn't go out to take pictures.
