The hotel itself is highly recommended. It takes a bit of getting used to that you can't drive right up there. You have to walk the last 100 to 200 meters. It's a bit awkward with large luggage. The rating of the area is a compromise: if you're looking for a luxury vacation, this is the wrong place (1 star). If you want to experience how many people really live in Bangkok, this is the right place (5 stars). From the 5th floor you have a good view of the river.
