Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Bandaksli?
The best area to stay in Bandaksli is right in the village centre, particularly around the Bandaksli brygge (pier) area.

This small, picturesque village is located on the shores of Lake Bandak, offering a tranquil setting. The village centre is compact and easy to navigate on foot, with paths leading directly to the lakefront. You'll find a few local eateries and craft shops here, all within a short stroll of the pier which is the main focal point.

For couples seeking a peaceful retreat, staying near the pier provides direct access to the lake and opportunities for boat trips on the historic M/S Henrik Ibsen. The surrounding nature offers lovely walking paths, and you'll find accommodations with beautiful lake views, great for a relaxing getaway.

Families will also find the village centre appealing. The lake provides a natural playground for children, and the calm environment means you can easily explore the area together.
When is the best time to go to Bandaksli?
The best time to visit Bandaksli is during the summer months, from June to August, when the weather is warm and the days are long, making it ideal for outdoor activities and experiencing the Telemark Canal.

During these months, the average daily temperatures range from 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, superb for exploring the natural beauty of the region. This period also coincides with the full operational schedule of the Telemark Canal boats, offering daily departures for scenic cruises through the locks. The longer daylight hours mean more time for hiking, cycling, and enjoying the lakeside surroundings.

For those interested in winter sports or a quieter, snow-covered landscape, late February and March offer good conditions for skiing and other snow activities in the nearby mountains.
