BačviceBeach is the most popular beach in the city of Split, attracting both natives and holiday makers to its energetic shores. Challenge friends or family to a game of picigin, splash about in the shallow Adriatic waves or sip a beer at one of the beachside bars. This pebble and sand beach is a favourite local hangout and boasts a lively and buzzing ambiance. It’s been awarded Blue Flag status for its cleanliness and abundant facilities. Bring the whole family along for a day in the sun. The wide beach and shallow waters make it safe and especially suitable for children. Rent a sun lounger and umbrella or bring a towel and lie wherever you please. This beach can get busy during the hot summer months, so arrive early in the morning to secure a well-placed spot. Watch locals playing picigin in the shallows, ducking and diving as they attempt to keep a small ball from dropping into the water. This popular Croatian beach pastime is thought to have originated here on Bačvice Beach in the early 20th century. As you will see, it is still an extremely popular beach activity, fun to try but difficult to master. Dry off during a stroll along the coastal path, which leads east from Bačvice past several smaller and quieter bays. Find numerous cafés and restaurants along this pathway. When you’ve had enough swimming, sunbathing and picigin, use changing facilities and showers located at either end of the beach to freshen up. After a day spent at the beach, stop at the Bačvice restaurant-nightlife complex for dinner or an end-of-day drink. Located directly behind the beach, this three-story complex houses restaurants and bars that become lively after dark. Soak up the fun atmosphere and mingle with locals and tourists as they party the night away. Bačvice Beach is centrally located and can be reached on foot from most central Split locations. (272 reviews) I stayed in one of several ground floor (actually semi-basement) rooms that opened directly off the relatively quiet street. Noise was a major issue. This was for three reasons: (1) a window facing street and hidden outside by shutters and inside by curtains behind desk was left ajar. Closing it required moving desk, and a shorter person would have needed to stand on a chair. (2) Noise travelled from floor above easily - everything from footsteps to phone conversation was audible at 2am. (3) During heavy rain, the gutters somehow ran internally above the bathroom ceiling creating an echo chamber of dripping water noises! The front desk was not open for all of the advertised hours. I only stayed because I got three nights for price of two and location was conveniently close to the old town but not on busiest strips. (84 reviews) Excellent hotel. I plan to return. I recommend it! The quality of the building is very good. The room we had (junior suite) was well laid out. The bathroom was very nice. Only downside was that it did not have a bathtub; it was a shower only. But it was a nice shower. There is a hot tub and sauna that is bookable. We did that and enjoyed it. The staff are very professional and nice. They speak fluent English. In particular, I want to give recognition to the hard working Diana in the restaurant. The breakfasts every day were very helpful. Plenty of options. We always ate a big breakfast to fuel our long days of Croatia exploration. There is a rooftop cafe! The only downside of this hotel is its location. It is fine and I have no problem with it. However, it is not "walkable" for some people. For me, no problem. We walked to Diocletian's Palace in about 20 -- 25 minutes. There are two short turns and then a main street takes you directly to the old part of the city. The advantage of the hotel location is also that it's easy to take a car into town or out of town. It's a \~$10 Uber ride to the ferry or Palace. It's also easy to get onto the road and towards places outside of Split, like the Fortress or onwards to Trogir, etc. Overall, I actually think the location is decent. One side of the hotel faces a busy road, so perhaps choose the other side if that's an issue for you. We faced the road but found it to be quiet at night. Overall, this was a very positive experience!
