Fall in love with the music of Bach once again in the Bach Museum in Leipzig. The museum not only contains artifacts and exhibits relating to the composer, but it also has a calendar of concerts where his music is performed live by an in-house ensemble. An annual festival completes the museum’s celebration of his formidable canon of work. Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach in 1685 and was one of the most influential figures in the Baroque music movement. Although he has many famous works, including the soaring Brandenburg Concertos, his weekly commissions from churches in Leipzig meant that he composed hundreds of songs, airs and toccatas before his death in 1750. The museum is hosted in Bose House, previously a residence of the Bose family, who were friends with Bach. Step inside to see features of the building that date back to this era, including a mirror-lined banqueting hall that is now used for concerts. Trace the story of Bach’s life across a series of displays that follow his journey. Learn about how his whole family were involved with music and inspect instruments from the Baroque era. Bach worked for part of his life testing and examining organs, including one that is displayed in the museum. Part of the gallery is dedicated to Bach’s time in Leipzig. Use touch-screen displays on a floor map of the city to learn more about his life here. The Bach Museum hosts concerts throughout the year. Aside from Bach compositions, the in-house ensemble plays a diverse selection of Baroque music from other composers, including work by Telemann and Purcell. Visit the Bach Museum in June to take part in Bach Fest, when the composer’s music is celebrated and performed over a week and a half of concerts. Listen to soul-stirring cantatas and religious songs by the great man and attend events that look at his far-reaching influence in the world of music. The Bach Museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday. There is an admission fee, with free entry for children aged up to 16\. The museum is located opposite St. Thomas Church, which has a bus stop outside. (235 reviews) Overall, the hotel was nice, amenities seemed of good quality and new. When checking in there was a fairly long line and we had to wait about 10 - 15 minutes to check in which was a new experience for us in a four-star-hotel. Unfortunately, we had a room that was located towards the street so opening the window was impossible due to noise. However, the room was extremely hot and stuffy. Turning on the AC meant that the air stream flow moved the curtains which then made a fairly loud and arrhythmic clicking noise which made sleeping really difficult. We told that info to the staff the next morning and the nice and polite lady told us that it was a construction error in every room that the AC air stream flow made the curtains move and thus caused the clicking noises. She suggested to turn the AC air stream flow down but then it would've been impossible to sleep because the room was so stuffy. The breakfast was nice, we'd say average. We missed some bacon ;) but there were breakfast sausages and meatballs which excused the absence of bacon ;) The breakfast room was unusually full and when we later went upstairs, we again saw a long line of people waiting who actually seemed to have to wait for the other hotel guests to finish their breakfast to make room for the new hotel guests. We stayed one night on a weekend and there were Christmas markets plus the Christmas oratorium concert so it might have been unusually full, too. For the overall experience, the price was too high. (274 reviews) Our double room was fantastic, with its own mini kitchen, a great bathroom, a sofa in front of the bed in case you wanted to watch TV, a fridge and lots of space. There was very little noise outside and we slept really well. Quite honestly, it was the best hotel room I've ever stayed in. Staff in reception were very polite, friendly, helpful and spoke great English. The small reception area is also a very pleasant place to enjoy a late-night drink, as they serve alcohol from a small bar. Highly recommended if you stay in Leipzig.
