Farview Bach - Rural, beach, river and fishing!
Welcome to Farview Bach!
Kick back and relax, go fishing, collect drift wood, mix with the locals or go on a riverboat cruise - your choice! Farview bach is located 5mins north of Mokau. From the bach, it's only a 10min walk to the Awakino River (great for trout fishing and white-baiting during the season), and to the local pub.
En route to Mokau, you can stop off at the beach/estuary at Awakino Heads to swim or collect driftwood, or the beach by Seaview Motor Camp which is great for surf-casting. The beaches are good for surfing but take care - the ocean can be dangerous on the west coast, with rips and strong undertows. Mokau has two cafes and a museum, and you can arrange river cruises from Mokau.
Heading north - 2.5km will take you to Junction Service Station which stocks basic groceries, supplies, daily newspapers etc.
To reach the bach there's a short climb up a metalled farm track. The bach is situated in a fence section on farmland. It's private, light and spacious. It has a long history - starting it's life as the local Mokau school. Years later, it was relocated to it's current location, renovated, and has been a family bach for about the last 8 years.
There's a covered porch, entrance way, kitchen, laundry, bathroom with bath and shower, a bedroom area, huge living area, walk in wardrobe and Kauri floors throughout. Also an internal access garage with additional toilet and hand-basin. The bach is warm - has a wood burner and is draught-free due to aluminium joinery.
Sleeping: There's a double bedroom area, and other two beds are situated 'communal style' in the spacious, cathedral-roofed living room. There's another double bed located in the internal access garage (basic but carpetted) with it's own toilet and hand basin.
There are two decks, outdoor furniture and sun umbrella, plus magazines, books and jigsaws to help you relax. The bach is well suited to families and couples. Special conditions: Bring own linen (sheets and pillow cases), towels and tea towels No smoking at the bach Bach is situated on a grazing block. Please heed safety notices Please take your rubbish and recycling when you leave. Recycling and refuse stations available Awakino, Piopio, Te Kuiti, Waitara, New Plymouth. Opening hours vary
Extras: Cleaning charge (Required, NZ$60.00 per stay); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

It suited us perfectly - a bach with character & everything we needed, only birds & cattle as neighbours & a fantastic view to wake up to plus spectacular sunsets to finish each day. Recommend pottering into Mōkau for coffee & a browse around the museum.
A perfect location with stunning scenery and a hidden gem of a Bach...Spacious and accommodating for any people with nature on the front door. Clean and very comfortable.
We had a lovely time staying in Awakino at the bach. The breathtaking views of the ocean and Mt Taranaki were an added bonus and the bach itself had so much more space than expected. Would definitely recommend to anyone.
I have mixed emotions about giving a great review for this place cause I don't want anyone else to know about it so that we can just stay whenever we want. But since this isn't really fair this is one of the better places that I've stayed at and everything we wanted was at our fingertips the only thing missing was a microwave but other than that we're looking forward to our next trip there.
Great little kiwi bach/cottage. Simple and basic but comfortable. Fantastic views and location. Will come back for a return visit. Great value for money
This is the second time I've started here at Fairview Bach. Love the location, which is away from everything. Enjoyed a cosy fire in the main room, went for a beach walk in Mokau, had a nicer night at the pub. There is a van available for pick up and drop off which we made use of, was great!
Needed a break away to relax and reclaim some peace. This was perfect. A lovely historical building repurposed into a beautifully positioned bach. Juswhat
Perfect spot blending lush pasture land, panoramic ocean views, and outstanding fiery sunsets! With Mt Taranaki rising through the morning mist and the Awakino River rising and falling with tides, this is a gem in the Aotearoa crown. The bach was very comfortable with all the charms of rustic living. The host was very accommodating when we added another day to our stay.I would definitely stay again if in the area, and for a lot longer than the few days I had.
Everything about this spot and stay was seamless and stunning. The views, the location, the ability to still work (I was on a work trip) and have reception was an extra bonus.
The host was great to communicate with and there was everything we could need.
So happy the fire was stoked and ready to roll.
Despite being so high up and a heritage building.. the newly installed joinery meant the heat was not lost at all through the night and it was a really comfortable and safe stay.
Appreciate the opportunity to stay in your wonderful spot!

Lovely views. Pllace a little run down needs TLC. Curtains bathroom floor wiring and outside appearance. Driveway needs a little attention. All this is related to what we paid.
