Located on the 4th floor and accessible via a charming vintage lift, AK1 blends character, history, and style. The apartment features four uniquely styled bedrooms — two king, one queen, and one bunk bed — along with four bathrooms, three of which are en suite. It has a compact, fully equipped kitchen with a lovely dining area. The living room also features a smart TV, so guests can stream using their own accounts. The vintage lift, dating back to 1937, accommodates two guests and two bags — a little piece of Athens’ past. AK1 is just a few minutes’ walk from Omonia Square and the Omonia Metro Station, placing you in the heart of one of Athens’ most vibrant neighborhoods. From here, you’re only 20 minutes on foot from Monastiraki Square and historic Plaka, 15 minutes from the lively, street-art-filled Psirri, and 15 minutes from the National Archaeological Museum. With traditional bakeries, the famous Varvakios Agora, and the National Theatre of Greece nearby, AK1 is the perfect base for exploring Athens like a local. Early check in or late check out. The location was ‘interesting’, there were some dodgy happenings going on down the side street but since the apartment is on the main road, none of it really bothered us. Lia scheduled transportation for us to and from the airport, and Jakob met us at the apartment to help us get settled. The apartment is conveniently located near Omonia Metro station so it was easy to get around Athens. We however appreciated being close to the Metro but still walkable distance to all the tourist destinations of Athens. Inside (building has two locked doorways before foyer) was pretty old but safe...4 stifling hot flights of stairs (the elevator seems sketchy) we appreciated the very cool AC each time we returned to the apt. I loved the size-4 bedrooms with 4 baths so the price was right for nearness to attractions, cleanliness and size but having to take into account the sketchy nearby neighborhood. We had a great stay at this property. We were a group of 6 adults and the four rooms were just the right amount of space for us. We had some complications and delays with our arrivals to Athens, and the management company was very flexible and helpful in welcoming all of us and getting us checked in. We also booked our taxis to and from the airport through the hosts, which was very convenient. As other reviews mention, the neighborhood is not the best. We strongly recommend walking only on the main roads until you get further into the city. But there were no security issues with the property-- we felt totally safe in the unit. The unit is very close to a convenient metro stop and about a 20 minute walk to popular sightseeing locations. Three of the bedrooms had ensuite baths and one had the bath room one room away but with the others all being private, this didnt cause is any problems. The heating/cooling units looked brand new and worked well. There is also a clothes washer which was a hit with my group. Just before leaving for the trip, I saw a YouTube video that said this neighborhood was to be avoided. In the end, we saw some poor people (one would expect in any city) but the main streets were well-lit and we never felt unsafe on the larger streets in Omonia, day or night. Dont let people scare you from this location, it was fine. One of the bedrooms has bunk beds so is ideal for families or singles traveling in groups. I will add that not only are there 4 bathrooms, they are very nice bathrooms. I would, however suggest caution to anyone who is not sure-footed or has a disability...the elevator would not accommodate a wheelchair, there are 77 steps to the apartment, and about half of the lights in the stairwell were burned out during our stay. It had 4 bedrooms (3 with large beds (at least queen sized) and one with bunk beds. All 4 had their own bathroom with shower. We were a few blocks from Omonia Plaza(?), where there were excellent bakeries, a metro station, and is located on Athina street, which connects to the Acropolis. The neighborhood is a little run down and can be noisy (big city noise) when we're trying to sleep. Besides that, the apartment is everything it's advertised to be, and it's perfect for a week long visit. Having the 4 bathrooms saves a lot of time in the mornings when everybody is trying to get ready! Only a short walk to Omonia Square and access to all the activities Athens has to offer. There were serval homeless people living on the adjacent street doing drugs. This was not a safe place for our family to stay so we immediately left upon arrival. The listing did not provide an accurate description of the neighborhood. Also, the property manager did not show up on time to meet us at the property. We would appreciate a partial refund since we never entered the apartment, but our request was declined. We definitely do not recommend this apartment for a family stay. ##### Nate B.
