Δίπλα στεγάζονται ιστορικά κτίρια όπως το Πολυτεχνείο (ΕΜΠ) και το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο. Το σημείο της αυτό και η διαχρονική της ανάπτυξη έχει αποτελέσει πόλο έλξης πολλών ανθρώπων της διανόησης και της τέχνης του ελληνικού και μη χώρου.
