![When Mount Rainier National Park was established in 1899 the park headquarters were located at the site of James Longmire's homestead and mineral springs resort.  Over the subsequent decades a number of architecturally significant buildings were constructed, including the Administration Building pictured here.  

What sets this building apart is the use of glacial boulders to form much of the first story walls.  Massive log beams and log-siding complete the structure, while a large fireplace dominates the lobby.  Overall, the building appears largely the same as it did when built in the late 1920s. 

Today the building serves as a visitor information center.

"Our cabin stay at the cozy black bear retreat was FABULOUS! The cabin was spotless and well-stocked with everything we needed. K-cups, water, cozy bath robes and Roku TV. The host was quick to respond when I had the old code upon arrival. The views were breathtaking. She even had train maps and local restaurant menus. Can't wait to go back!"

"The cabin had everything we needed and more including all kitchen items and lots of games/puzzles for fun family time. The fire pit was the highlight for us and we spent several hours each evening enjoying a fire and smores. Easy access to the national park and a short drive back to cabin after a long day hiking and exploring, the cabin has a great location and amenities.
