Go hiking or skiing in the mountains, or take a sled-ride with some energetic dogs before rounding off the day with a top-class meal.

Arvidsjaur boasts a wide range of outdoor activities, so those who like to be active have come to the right place. The town makes for a great destination at all times of the year.

Arvidsjaur is located approximately 110 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle in Central Lapland. Its cold winters have made Arvidsjaur the perfect test location for winter driving, and many European car manufacturers come up here to test their new cars. Arvidsjaur is also a base for the Jaeger Battalion of the Swedish Army.

During your weekend in Arvidsjaur, you should take the opportunity to visit the Sami Town. Back in the days when it was obligatory for everyone in Sweden to attend church, the Sami needed somewhere to stay whenever they came in for services. At the Sami Town you can see the typical huts that they stayed in and learn about how they lived. The Wooden Church in Arvidsjaur is well worth a visit. The church was built between 1900-1902 in the Gothic Revival style.

Although there are many cultural attractions in Arvidsjaur, the town is probably best suited for outdoor activities. It's the perfect place to pursue a wide range of outdoor passions, from fishing, hunting, rafting and skiing to dog sledding and snowmobiling. There are several companies in the area which organise fantastic package deals that are very popular.

The town is also home to Prästberget, a centrally located ski and snowboard slope for more experienced riders - and for fans of cross-country skiing, there are about 40 kilometres of cross country skiing trails, of which 11 kilometres are illuminated. If you visit in the summer, there are lots of beautiful trails that you can hike, including some which go along the shores of the Arvidsjaur Lake. For those of you who like to keep warm and maybe do a little swimming, we recommend the Centrumbadet leisure centre, which is located right in the heart of Arvidsjaur.

The easiest way to travel to Arvidsjaur is by plane, car or train from Stockholm. There are daily flights from Stockholm to Arvidsjaur Airport, which is located just a few kilometres from the city centre. It is also possible to take the Inland Railway train all the way up to Arvidsjaur at certain times of the year.

Why not book a holiday to Arvidsjaur, where you can experience the magnificent Swedish nature, local Sami culture, and a wide range of different activities.
