The hotel is clean, the rooms are comfortable and the staff is extremely gracious. I chose this because I wanted to stay in a hotel that had access to an onsen, and this one did not disappoint. The onsen facility was clean, never over crowded and a nice temperature even during the hot summer. Clean and good location. Breakfast was excellent. Hot spring in the middle of the city and on the top of the hotel, looking at the beautiful view of Aomori port with the cruise ship lit up at night. There were complimentary strawberry jelly in the fridge in the room. All the staff was courteous and helpful. The privacy, quiet setting, sento, food and everything else is something to be marvelled when coming from Europe. The standard-double was clearly designed for single occupancy (and that's allowing for the fact that Japanese hotel rooms are always on the small side). They charge you if you want your room cleaned and this was not made clear in the booking. They make you put your own towels and rubbish outside the room if you want them changed/emptied. In other words, it's not offering a standard hotel service ... more like a hostel - one where you do the work for them. Not sure I've ever been asked to pay extra to have a room cleaned. Tiny bottles of water provided.
