What a great home!
We were seven adults who thoroughly enjoyed our 2-night stay. The home is spacious, the beds comfortable and the rooms were all very clean and welcoming. We did not use the pool (thought it was crystal clear), as it was a bit cool in early October... and we were always out during the day exploring the Douro Valley. We did not cook at home but we really appreciated the full-sized kitchen and large dining room table. The views from the balcony outside two of the bedrooms were wonderful. We parked two cars on the property. It just takes a bit of patience and skill to navigate the cobblestone shared driveway leading from the main street to the house. A small cafe is no more than a 2 minute walk up a pedestrian path from the house... though a perfectly adequate breakfast of coffee, breads and cheeses is provided by the owner each morning. The town of Pinhao is about a 10-minute ride and there we enjoyed a couple different restaurants, bought some groceries and boarded a scenic boat tour of the Douro Valley. Bottom line? Book this home for your visit to Pinhao.

A perfect place to unwind.
Place was exactly as advertised -- a lovely old stone house in a tiny village, with vineyards in every direction. Friendly hosts, and Louisa, who prepares breakfast, is a gem. Be advised that getting in and out of the driveway is a bit of a tight squeeze. We managed it okay, but for the most part just parked our car on the main street, a block away. No shops in Vale de Mendiz itself, but Pinhau is a beautiful little river village, with everything you need. All the major port houses are in the neighborhood, but if you like wine, and prefer table wine to port, be sure to book a visit to 'Wine and Soul,' which is in Vale de Mendiz itself -- only 50 yards or so from the house. It's one of the greatest wineries in the entire Douro region.

Magnificent property!
We loved our stay here and wished we had booked for a longer period of time. Luiza's breakfasts were wonderful, the property was gorgeous, and Jose was beyond helpful. The pictures do not compare to the beauty of the house in person. We highly recommend it!
