Alfafar is a quiet town just a short distance from Valencia within the Albufera natural park, featuring a host of splendid historic buildings.
Alfafar is a small town on the outskirts of Valencia, just one stop from the Valencia Nord railway station. The parish church of Our Lady of the Don is the oldest historical building in the town, dating back to the 18th century. This church is a good example of the popular Valencian baroque style, with its facade, belfry and beautifully decorated dome. Thanks to a complete renovation in 1993, today it can be seen in all its glory.
The Casa Consistorial – Alfafar's town hall – and the Sindicato Arrocero or Rice Growers' Guild are two other buildings that are worth visiting in Alfafar. The former was built 150 years ago and still magnificently dominates the Plaza Mayor. The second is a particularly well-conserved example of the private recreational establishments that flourished in the 1920s. This fine Rococo building now houses the municipal library.
Another reason to visit Alfafar are its fallas fiestas – although smaller than in Valencia, the celebrations are equally impressive. As the crowds are smaller, it is easier to get to the front to best enjoy this unique experience.
