This lovely Victorian fisherman's cottage is in the heart of Aldeburgh on a quiet street, 25 yards from the beach and 25 yards from Aldeburgh high street. Arwen cottage is a lovely cosy cottage, full of character and exceptionally comfortable, clean and well-equipped, including the use of unlimited Wi-Fi and super fast broadband. Arwen cottage is close to an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, characterful pubs, excellent art galleries, a cinema and a theatre. The cottage is also a few paces from the most famous fish and chip shop in the country. There are excellent restaurants just a couple of minutes walk away - The Lighthouse, Regatta and Brudenell are all excellent as well as several others. As you step out of the cottage door the promenade and beach are a few paces in one direction, and the high street just yards away the other way. Despite the perfect location, the cottage is delightfully peaceful. There is also public parking just outside the cottage. The cottage has been re-furbished in a light but luxurious style and has been brought into the 21st century, with contemporary kitchen and bathroom and very comfy furnishings. On the ground floor it has a lovely cosy living room and dining space with a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom. There is a private sunny courtyard with outside furniture too. On the first floor it has a master bedroom which is spacious and peaceful with Victorian sash windows and a solid wood frame king size bed. There is also a guest bedroom, which is furnished with a bunk-bed made of metal frame and superior quality mattresses, covered with natural linen. Arwen cottage is a lovely fisherman's cottage, full of character and exceptionally comfortable. We provide complimentary toiletries and essential pantry items such as coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits, salt and pepper. This picturesque Suffolk seaside town is particularly popular among music lovers, bird watchers, walkers and artists. Aldeburgh and the surrounding area has inspired many authors and poets in the past but the most famous son of the town is Benjamin Britten who founded the Aldeburgh Music Festival which now has worldwide acclaim and is held every year in June at Snape Maltings. Fishermen still pull their colourful boats up on the shingle beach and sell fresh fish from the picturesque huts. The wide, mainly Georgian high street has many attractive buildings whilst the seafront properties all have commanding views of the beach and the North Sea. Sailing is popular on the nearby Alde estuary where a large variety of yachts can be seen at summer weekends. Aldeburgh’s high street hosts a number of good restaurants, pubs, antique shops, bookshops, bakers, butchers, fishmongers, and the best fish and chips shop in the country. Thorpeness: 5 mins. Snape Maltings: 10 mins. Saxmundham: 15 mins. Framlingham: 20 mins. Southwold: 20 mins. Walberswick: 20 mins. Getting Around: Within easy reach of the A12 and serviced by local buses and trains, Aldeburgh is conveniently located for days out to all places of interest in the Suffolk Heritage Coastal area and to other major attractions of East Anglia. Beautiful countryside and villages surround the town. Art and music festivals are held throughout the year. The Aldeburgh Tourist Office is the best source for information. All the main services and attractions in Aldeburgh are only a short walk away. There are local buses from the High Street, including to Saxmundham railway station. Thorpeness is a short drive away, and many people delight in walking there along the shingle beach, admiring Maggi Hambling's famous scallop sculpture on the way. For an evening stroll or Sunday walk, Thorpeness Meare is just 15 mins walk away or Kings Field is just 10 mins walk away. From the town, you can take a bus or taxi for the short journey into Leiston, Snape or Saxmundham - for an evening at the cinema, theatre or a concert; or a train to the cinema in Woodbridge, or the Arts Centre in Halesworth. Other Things to Note: This beautiful period fisherman's cottage is compact in its size but full of charm and character. Please note that as with many cottages built in this era, the steps to the 1st floor are quite steep, care needs to be taken. Please check the photographs before booking. House Rules: Arwen Cottage is our much loved family cottage which we're delighted to share with like-minded guests. We expect our guests to treat it as their own home; with care and love and most of all enjoyment! Unfortunately, pets are not allowed at this time. The cottage is a no smoking area. Unfortunately the cottage it's not suitable for children under 4 years old. This is due to the cottage's original Victorian steep stairs. But we are happy to make an exception providing the parents assume full responsibility and bring their own baby equipment. There are no disabled facilities. The cottage accommodates four guests maximum. Check-in and Check-out times are strict. Early check in or late check out available by request (additional fee applicable). It is a residential area so consideration for those around the cottage would be appreciated. ## Property amenities ### Beach - Beach nearby ### Internet - Available in the house: Free WiFi ### Parking and transport - Beautiful cottage in a great location. Felt at home straight away with all the amenities and more that you could want. Fantastic location, a stone's throw from the beach. Everything provided was tasteful and of a high spec/standard. Would definitely recommend to others to stay. Lucy was easy to contact and made sure we had everything we needed. Highly recommended. Lucy and Tim are incredible hosts and welcomed us with open arms. We had a wonderful stay here and didn't want to leave. We had cake, bread and milk left for us which was very welcome. They ensured that our stay was comfortable and for everything to help us find lifts to and from the Snape concert hall. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone wanting to relax or work! It is simply fantastic! Can't fault or think of anything to improve! ##### Tim and Lucy W. We felt at home from the moment we walked through the door. Arwen cottage is a delightful fisherman's cottage, well located, 5 seconds from the beach, and has everything you can think of taken care of. Such a great location for exploring Aldeburgh and beyond. And all the lovely little touches in the cottage - from the welcome pack to the beautiful furnishings and super comfy beds, we didn't want to leave. Lucy was incredibly helpful during the booking process and when we asked for any tips. We will definitely be back. ##### Tim and Lucy W. The cottage is very close to the seafront (5 seconds walk) and within easy walking distance of all Aldeburgh has to offer. Stylishly decorated and perfectly set up for two adults and two children. It would be remiss of me to fail to mention the close proximity to the UK's best fish'n'chip shop. A perfect base for a weekend break. Highly recommended. It used to be a fisherman's cottage so it has plenty of character! Lucy was a perfect host and recommended some great local places to visit and eat at. ##### Jeff L. We found parking outside even though it was a hot summer Saturday and the area was busy with visitors. The stairs are very steep so are either fun or a little bit of a trial depending on your age bracket! It does back onto a pub outside seating area which was busy with people enjoying drinks outside when we arrived. But the pub closes at 11pm and we were out for the evening of our overnight stay so it was no problem for us. Overall, a great stay in a really thoughtfully put together cottage . Lucy was great at communication. Full marks from us. ##### Wendy B. Verified ### 8/10 Good #### 2 adultes e. 1 Jul 2018 #### Lovely time in Alderburgh. The cottage is such a lovely and comfortable home. It is ideally located. A few minutes from.the sea front and the best fish and chips in town. We had a lovely break at Arwen Cottage - it was a shame we couldn’t stay longer as we settled in so quickly and relaxed - just what we needed!! It is such a cosy cottage, and perfectly located for a weekend of walks and shopping and café visiting!! The cottage had everything we could possibly need (and more!) and was so well equipped, and we wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you Tim and Lucy! ##### Helen A. Stayed 1 night in Feb 2018 Archival ### 10/10 Excellent #### Melanie Day 26 Aug 2017 #### Wonderful cozy seaside escspe Despite being a family with 2 young children, 7 and 4, we found Arwen Cottage to meet all our needs. As per the description, it is very small, yet cozy, but we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location couldn't be better, a minute from the high street, and a minute from the beach. We were a little worried about backing onto a busy pub garden, but need not have had any concern as all noise was pretty much finished by 10.30, and definitely didn't keep our children awake at night. We arrived during carnival day, which was a challenge to get to the cottage, but then we reaped the benefits of being able to join in the amazing evening lantern parade and fireworks. Lucy was very responsive to a couple of minor issues we brought to her attention, and we would definitely look to rent from her and Tim again. ##### Melanie Day Stayed 4 nights in Aug 2017 Archival ### 8/10 Good #### Carolyn J. 25 Jul 2017 #### Short stay in Aldburgh Had a really great couple of days in Aldeburgh. Arwen cottage was nice. Clean , tidy and a good location. Just a couple of things and it would be even better . The lounge was a bit cramped feel smaller sofas may help and it was not easy to sit at the table. Although I realised the stairs were steep and winding from the photographs hadn't appreciated how steep they were ! Feel this should be emphasised more on the details for people who may find them difficult. Also a bath mat would be nice as not easy stepping out of the bath on to a tiled floor when wet. Thanks for a great stay though. ##### Carolyn J. A great location to be in and amongst Aldeburgh town and close to the beach. I suggest you bring a hard copy of how to access the property, as the town does not have great mobile phone signal. The owners were easily contactable and helpful. We found the cottage to be clean and cosy and ideally located for Aldeburgh high street and the beach. We had a wonderful stay and the old fisherman's cottage was equipped with everything we needed. We particularly enjoyed sitting outside in the courtyard with a glass of wine! ##### Cheryl B. Providing many options for activities and meals. House was clean and had all necessary household accessories, it was like staying at our own place. Would definitely refer to friends and happily stay again. ##### Patrick C. Archival ### 6/10 Okay #### Karen H. 4 Jan 2016 #### Very quaint cottage The cottage is a quaint cozy cottage close to the beach and all amenities. The cottage is small and not ideal for toddlers as it has a very steep staircase. Ideal for a couple. We had our 2year old granddaughter and the staircase was an issue. The cottage is equipment with all amenities. Parking is very limited. There is a pay and display car park 3 min walk and you can park on the high street for unlimited between 6pm & 9am. Alround it is a well looked after property and we would visit again only as a couple. ##### Karen H. ### Expedia's Latest Trends ### Hotels > - [The Skipton Hotel - Formerly Hotel Rendezvous](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skipton-Hotels-Hotel-Rendezvous.h41466.Hotel-Information) > - [OYO Shanklin Beach Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Shanklin-Hotels-OYO-Shanklin-Beach-Hotel.h7539838.Hotel-Information) > - [Brock Cottage private Hot Tub DOG/Cat FRIENDLY\* with on site fishing](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Pickering-Hotels-Spacious-Stone-Cottage-DOG-FRIENDLY.h36805890.Hotel-Information) > - [Crafted at Powdermills](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Battle-Hotels-Powdermills-Country-House-Hotel.h195688.Hotel-Information) > - [Bear Lodge - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Bear-Lodge-Aspinall-Foundation.h40101484.Hotel-Information) > - [DoubleTree by Hilton London Elstree](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Borehamwood-Hotels-DoubleTree-By-Hilton-London-Elstree.h18549.Hotel-Information) > - [Hampton by Hilton Canterbury](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Canterbury-Hotels-Hampton-Inn-Canterbury.h66541221.Hotel-Information) > - [Pinewood Camping Pods - At Port Lympne Reserve](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Hythe-Hotels-Pinewood-Apinall-Foundation.h40101599.Hotel-Information) > - [Exeter Rougemont hotel by Sunday](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-Exeter-Rougemont-Hotel-By-Sunday.h7784.Hotel-Information) > - [Mermaid, Ipswich by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Ipswich-Hotels-Mermaid.h31883430.Hotel-Information) > - [Wild Rose Caravan Park](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Appleby-In-Westmorland-Hotels-Wild-Rose-Caravan-Park.h24459296.Hotel-Information) > - [Sandman Signature Sheffield Quays Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Sheffield-Hotels-The-Quays-Hotel-Sheffield.h46197620.Hotel-Information) > - [Kings Highway, Derby by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Derby-Hotels-Kings-Highway.h31887923.Hotel-Information) > - [Crow Wood Hotel & Spa Resort](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Burnley-Hotels-Crowwood-Hotel-Spa-Resort.h38222710.Hotel-Information) > - [Lock Keeper, Worksop by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Worksop-Hotels-Lock-Keeper.h27479298.Hotel-Information) > - [White Hart, Exeter by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Exeter-Hotels-White-Hart.h11899395.Hotel-Information) > - [Skegness The Royal Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Skegness-Hotels-The-Royal-Hotel-Skegness.h23931999.Hotel-Information) > - [The Swan Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Wells-Hotels-The-Swan-Hotel.h26791.Hotel-Information) > - [voco Leicester by IHG](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Leicester-Hotels-Voco-Leicester.h76596043.Hotel-Information) > - [The Stables Whitby](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Whitby-Hotels-The-Stables-Whitby.h23322490.Hotel-Information) > - [Soar Mill Cove Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Salcombe-Hotels-Soar-Mill-Cove-Hotel.h2042032.Hotel-Information) > - [The Aviator, formerly Smugglers Cove, Clacton On Sea by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Clacton-On-Sea-Hotels-Smugglers-Cove-By-Marstons-Inns.h35853904.Hotel-Information) > - [Canterbury Bell, Margate by Marston's Inns](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Broadstairs-Hotels-Canterbury-Bell.h33103125.Hotel-Information) > - [Samsara Retreat and Yoga - Adults Only](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Maidstone-Hotels-Samsara-Retreat-And-Yoga.h41349775.Hotel-Information) > - [Seven Hotel](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Southend-On-Sea-Hotels-Seven-Hotel.h19282555.Hotel-Information) > - [Yeoldon House](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Bideford-Hotels-Yeoldon-House.h2764122.Hotel-Information) > - [Wild Thyme & Honey](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cirencester-Hotels-Wild-Thyme-Honey.h9241983.Hotel-Information) > - [Cromer Country Club](https://www.expedia.co.uk/Cromer-Hotels-Cromer-Country-Club.h1927781.Hotel-Information) > - [Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa](https://www.expedia.co.uk/New-Milton-Hotels-Chewton-Glen-Hotel-Spa.h528432.Hotel-Information) ---
