It’s always a great time for a nice getaway! Spend it in Afferden, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and local nature. However, you can also travel to cities nearby in case you want to go shopping, visit a theatre or learn more about the local history.
There are several hotels to choose from while staying in Afferden. Consider the location, among other things. Do you want to stay close to the natural landscape or would you rather stay close to the local life and book a hotel in the centre of the town?
Afferden is a town in the southern province of Limburg. In the Netherlands, the province is known for its dialect and pies. So while you are here, make sure to try a piece of pie (or two, or three)! Parts of Afferden were destroyed at the end of World War II, which is why most sights are not centuries old, but either ruins or rebuilds.
The Sint-Cosmas and Damianus Church dates from 1957, although the Roman tower was built in the 13th century. The local mill was destroyed in 1945, but the current mill (named ‘Nooit Gedacht’) was built in 1958 to replace the old mill. Castle Bleijenbeek was built in the 1300’s after floods destroyed another castle in Afferden. After the World War, only ruins were left of the castle. Those are still there.
The river Maas flows all through Limburg, also past Afferden. South of the town, the Eckeltse Beek flows from the Maas and northeast of Afferden is an area of river dunes, part of National Park The Maasduinen. As you can see, there is a lot of nature to see from up close. Take a walk through the nature by following one of the routes or go out with a camera to shoot some pictures. The area is also popular among bird watchers and other nature enthusiasts. Other beloved activities around Afferden are bicycling and golfing
Do you want to go shopping during your stay in Afferden? Or maybe visit a theatre, have a historical outing or go out for the night? Afferden is close to several cities. Nijmegen is just northwest of the town, and it is the oldest city of the Netherlands! Besides all this history, it also has many shops and great restaurants. The German city of Düsseldorf is also close by.
There are several hotels to choose from when staying in Afferden. Each hotel has their own unique characteristics, so make sure to pick a hotel that matches your preferences. Do you just want a place to lay your head at night, or would you rather stay at a hotel that also has a spa, for ultimate relaxation?
