About this property

3 Bed in Llwyn Du (oc-t44969)

  • With its retro black-and-red style, superb views, and sociable open-plan design, this countryside hideaway makes an excellent base for six people in the hills above Abergavenny. The town itself is just 2 miles away, so supplies, cafés, market browsing and pub dinners are all close at hand, yet the house still feels very much tucked into the Brecon Beacons landscape. Walking is the obvious draw here, with routes leading up towards the Sugar Loaf mountain, along open ridgelines and down through the valleys, where the outlook stretches across the Usk Valley and towards the Black Mountains. For days with less mud on your boots, head to Blaenavon World Heritage Site or the Big Pit National Coal Museum, both within 8.5 miles, or spend an afternoon discovering the area’s castles, Roman sites and handsome old buildings before choosing somewhere in Abergavenny town centre for dinner.

This working farm holiday home is a homely combination of Sugar Loaf views, contemporary furniture, and retro design with a 1950s twist. Warm your feet on the underfloor heating from the air source heat pump as you enter the porch and drop off your bags. The light and bright kitchen features all the necessary appliances for easy meal prep, and a welcome pack with local goodies. A hatch through to the lounge/diner makes dishing up a breeze, and with a lovely six-seater table, you can spend as little or as long as you like chatting through your plans. Beside this is the lounge space with modern seating, board games, and a selection of books. The wood burner is ideal for nights cosying in front of the TV. Along the hall, two bedrooms invite you to unwind after active days: a twin bedroom with far-reaching views of the Rholben Hill, and a south-facing garden room with a king-size bed and retro oak furniture. These bedrooms share a wet room on this floor. Upstairs, a king-size bedroom has its own luxury bathroom with a double-ended roll-top bath and has fabulous views across the Usk Valley.

From the porch, you’ll discover the front garden with a pretty patio and parking for two cars. The hallway leads to the rear of the property, where an enclosed south-facing back garden features lush lawns, a patio, and colourful shrubs. There’s even a BBQ for alfresco banquets. And for wildlife enthusiasts there are barn owls, roe deer and orchids within the surrounding meadows.
