“OK rate for location. Nothing fancy. Noisy street.”
We choose hotels on rate/location; a comfortable, safe place to sleep, as we are out all day. So cleanliness, hot water, comfortable bed and quiet are most important; but so too is Internet access; and we don't expect to have to pay for it these days. This is a decent hotel price wise for Zurich (rates in the city are ridiculous). Location is good, near a tram line that takes you the few stops to the lake. Rooms are spacious enough for two; the all glass shower in the bedroom is lovely as long as you are with someone you don't mind showering in front of ;) Toilet space could use a curtain as you feel a bit exposed to the building across the street while therein. Ample breakfast; great coffee, fresh fruit, cereals, yogurts, juices, breads, jams, cheeses; the cook offers made to order eggs & meats. Very nice after the flight the day before.
Street parking was easy as we were there on a Saturday-Sunday.
Two negatives:
1. inability to connect to the wi-fi. Inquired with staff; their reply was that the internet terminal in the lobby worked so they did not know what the problem was. Realize later that the wi-fi is just so weak you can not make a connection. As we depend upon Internet access during travel and chose the hotel in part because it advertised free access this was a major bother.
2, The street is very noisy. Constant traffic outside our room. The windows are mid-grade at sound dampening. It was cool enough (Oct) that we could close the windows at night so it helped.
Area recommendations
We only had a few hours int he city and were taking family that had never been, so chose to be in Zurich proper. I would suggest if you have time to look at some of the little cities around the lake as public transport back into Zurich proper is excellent. Also stayed before in the university area and liked that.
