“Alright”

Depends on what you are used to. If you like staying in budget hotels this will be a nice surprise. Unfortunately we were very spoilt by nice hotels so this was a total shock but it turned out to be clean and basic. Next time Londra Palace hotel....

“Small boutique hotel, but comfortable and well located”

Ca' Formenta is a tiny hotel located just west of the major tourist attractions, but within an easy walking distance from them. The 3-storey building is dwarfed by the surrounding structures - the pink colour distinguishes it. The property has been well maintained (except for carpeting which needs updating), the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was small - that is, by north american standfards - but everything was in good operating condition. We had a view of the lagoon which was fantastic both day and night, so it might be worthwhile to pay extra to get that view. Breakfast was the usual european continental spread, no hot items, but lots to keep you full for the walking ahead. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

Area recommendations
We were in the 'Arsenale' district which is a tad quieter than down by St. Mark's Square that was jammed with tourists even in the October season. It also seems a slight bit higher than some districts which may suffer from water challenges when the tides are very high. Climate change and global warming are not friendly to Venice which is elevated just inches above normal high tide levels.

“Good hotel for Venice”

Very basic hotel with clean rooms - but above par staff. They were fantastic - very helpful and great recommendations for places to eat. They helped coordinate a group taxi to take us to our Cruise ship. And since the taxi was 85 Euros - sharing a ride was well worth it. The hotel is walking distance (as is most hotels) to everything you want to see in Venice. Only downfall is the 70Euro water taxi to get to the hotel from the train station.

“Wonderful Venice Hotel”

This hotel is a gem...excellent location, small hotel, great service. Rooms are comfortable and well-furnished. Excellent breakfast buffet. Our only advice is to avoid the first floor rooms....too close to the kitchen and guests will be awakened early to the sounds of breakfast preparations. Otherwise, would definitely return and highly recommend this hotel!

“Not too bad”

The hotel is just two bridges from the public transport stop, which is a HUGE plus. Right down the street are a number of cafe's, restaurants, a supermarket, a pharmacy and an ATM. The hotel staff were amazing to deal with! They were very kind and willing to give us directions and tips for the local area. The room wasn't that great, the bed covers were too thin and the bathroom needed some maintenance, but for the price it was worth it. All in all we'd go back there!

“Perfect small hotel”

What a find! Excellent location, close enough to walk to the sights, but just far enough away for it to be peaceful enough to sleep with the windows open. Good breakfasts: you can sit outside with a view of the lagoon if you get up early. Good jogging too, as it's next to Gardieri park. Rooms are clean, comfortable and have good A/C. Excellent prices too, considering how expensive Venice is. Easy transit, as you can catch a fast boat from Arsenale station to Marco Polo airport. Have travelled all over the world, and have rarely wanted to return to a hotel. I've stayed at Ca' Formenta twice, and will certainly stay there again on my next visit.

Area recommendations
Venice is small enough to cross on foot, with stops for coffee. The problem is that in the summer some of the areas are jammed with tourists. Visit all six districts, using the vaporetti boats to cut down the distance you have to walk. But stay in one of the quiet areas, like Arsenale or Dorsoduro. If you have time, visit the lagoon. Keep to the backstreets, avoid the horde, and even in high summer you can experience what it was like there five hundred years ago.
Getting there
Take the water bus (Alilaguna) from Marco Polo airport.

“Friendly staff in wonderful city”

The hotel staff are all very friendly and willing to help you enjoy your stay in this magical city. Ca' Formentor is situated out of the major tourist area, although don't be surprised if you wake up to your lagoon view and find a huge cruise liner has parked on the front overnight. They tend to only be there for half a day, and it makes interesting viewing! Nearby restaurants are reasonable and also very friendly and you are only a 10 minute stroll from St Mark's Square. My second time visiting Venice and I returned to this hotel because I was made welcome and I felt safe and secure.

Area recommendations
This hotel is off of the Via Garibaldi near Arsenale ferry which is quiet but has a stunning lagoon view. Anywhere in Venice is amazing, but I returned here because it is close to the ferry - just two bridges to get over with those suitcases, and feels open at the lagoon front, rather than being hemmed in further inside the city.
When to go
Have been in May and September. The weather in May was perfect - (hot and sunny)
Getting around
All on foot so take comfortable walking shoes and clothing.
