“Worst Western”

September 26, 2011 Regarding the Best Western Motel at Lincoln, Illinois. I stayed at this hotel September 23rd and 24th. I cannot believe that this was a Best Western motel. I have stayed at most of the motels in Lincoln, IL; and this is absolutely the worst motel in town. You have to drive through a bowling alley parking lot and then the parking lot of a bar to get to this motel. The exterior doors have no security system operational. Anyone can come and go at any time of the day or night. The room was not cleaned during our stay. The lavatory had coffee strains in it from the previous guest. The towel rack was pulled from the wall, and hanging from one end. The electronic card which opens the door did not work after the first day of our stay. “Fortunately” the cleaning staff left the door to my room unlocked, and I was able to gain access when we returned to the room for our second night. I found the desk clerk “resting” on the couch in the lobby when I went there to leave a wake up call. The “deluxe breakfast” consisted of two pieces of cold bacon lying in a pool of congealed grease, and what might have been powdered eggs. If this is representative of the new Best Western standard, I will never stay there again.

“An excellent place to stay in Lincoln, IL”

The hotel was very well maintained. The rooms were nice and clean, the lobby was extremely cosy, the breakfast room was spic and span. In the neighborhood, at a walkable distance, there is a bowling place that can be a fun place to go with friends and family. Our overall experience was extremely positive.

“Newly remodeled.”

This hotel has been in Lincoln for some time but we had never stayed there. My mother lives in the Christian Village Retirement Community close by and we usually would stay at the Holiday Inn Express or Hampton Inn. Best Western recently acquired this location and completely remodeled it. The rooms were spacious and clean. Very comfortable beds and a microwave and small refrigerator in each room. It doesn't have a pool (which we wouldn't use) and this actually makes it a little more attractive to us. No kids running up and down the halls all night going back and forth to the pool. They also offer a free morning breakfast. We grabbed some coffee and fruit but can't comment on anything else served. It has an odd location next to a bowling alley and the entrance was a little hard to figure out. This hotel will be right next door to the new hospital that is currrently under construction. It is located on historic Route 66 so this may be a nice hotel for people to consider staying in if they are following that route.

Dining
Daphne's for breakfast (on Route 10 just past the fairgrounds on the left). The Russell Stover outlet location has great ice-cream and prices. (also on Route 10 close to the 55 exchange).
