Overlooking the Pacific and Gulf on the Osa Peninsula it is beautifully maintained, wildlife are all around, trails are rugged and moderate, and the staff could not be more personal and helpful. "Playa Cativo Lodge is a wonderful place and the accommodations, food and staff were absolutely perfect. It was nice to be so close to the gulf which was calm, warm, sandy and perfect for swimming. My only complaint was that the entire front area of the lodge has been landscaped with grass and ornamental plants, many of which are not native. Because of this large open area few birds or animals come near the lodge. Bird watching was disappointing compared to lodges that have left the rainforest...

"Lots of wildlife (capuchin monkeys and toucan for us), good diving operation, good food, and attentive staff. Too humid for me and not much to do beyond lodge offered activities, but just a nice place to relax. Difficult access (fly into Drake Bat airport and then car and boat to reach the lodge)."
