Great location, older property.

Posted 15-Jul-2014
Pros: Staff and breakfast.
Cons: Paying attention to who is in the party, and whether a ground floor or second floor room might work best,
Location: Location is fantastic, (and cheap!) for staying in Los Gatos.
I checked in late in the evening, traveling with my 6 year old. We were put in a ground floor unit, with a sliding back door and an adjoining door. We couldn't open the slider, for safety, and had neighbors that opened their side of the connecting door and knocked. At 10:30 pm, I was not going to haul my child out to ask for a second floor room. The rooms and decor were updated, but the bones of the buildings are still quite dated, with old windows, walls and doors. The staff was extremely kind and helpful, even when I checked in late, then checked out early the next morning. Breakfast was more than I expected from a "continental breakfast."

It's an ok place to just sleep

Posted 06-Jul-2014
I found a bunch of fat black spiders in my room. Made me paranoid. A few days before I arrived I confirmed with the receptionist that my rate would be lower with a AAA discount. When I arrived here the front desk receptionist tried to make me pay more. They were trying not to honor the price I was originally told it would be. I got him to eventually honor the AAA price. Hotel was ok. Might come back.

Scary was approached by a guard on the grounds

Posted 27-Jun-2014
Very scary and unstable. I went out about 10pm to look for ice. I was approach by a security guard that came from behind me, he ask me if he could help me. I jumped and said you scared the crap out of me, he smelled of cigarettes, and got within inches of my face, which the grounds clearly says is a no smoking campus. I am truly convinced if I had been weak in the least I would have become a victim of a crime. They really need to step up the employee back-ground checks....

Beautiful grounds and good location.

Posted 16-Jun-2014
Pros: The excellent grounds, cleanliness, and pool.
Cons: The mattress seemed old and the room needed more color. It was very plain with no pictures on the walls and the wallpaper should be painted over.
Location: The location was ideal and right off the freeway. We enjoyed a wonderful, casual dinner and stroll downtown.
Though the Lodge is old and the room we stayed in needs sprucing up i.e. better mattress, pictures on the wall, and horrible water flow in the shower, we were pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the grounds. The price also fit into our budget. I think the hotel is making improvements and the staff was pleasant. We also enjoyed the close proximity to Downtown Los Gatos.

Wouldn't go back, despite beautiful setting

Posted 10-Jun-2014
Pros: The location is nice--it's a quick drive into Los Gatos. The historic area has a few interesting shops (be sure to visit the candy store).
Cons: Customer service and landscaping both need an overhaul.
We probably picked an unfortunate weekend for our stay--the high school directly behind the hotel had its graduation the night we arrived, and the parties and noise went on through the night. The grounds are beautiful, but not well maintained: at one point, a large, dry tree branch fell on two cars, causing considerable damage. Part of the parking lot is given over to broken furniture and appliances, giving the impression that we were staying next to a junkyard. Perhaps the most outrageous--one of the three rooms we booked had a door that did not lock. Calling to ask for repair, the front desk responded, "He's busy." We were--seriously!--charged 75 cents for that call.

Most overpriced

Posted 06-Jun-2014
This was the most overpriced lodge that i ever stayed. The furnitures were like free stuff picked up from the craigslist. There was a big fly buzzing around the room, that i had to chase to smack it quiet. A small refrigerator making big noise all night. Attendant checked it but soon the noise started again. Very weak water flow shower.
