Great location- boutique hotel

We stayed here for two nights and the location is great. The staff was very friendly & helpful. However the room was small, especially the bathroom. The bed was comfortable. Everything was in Art Deco style. I would recommend it but a bit pricey for size room

Amazing Stay in Downtown San Fran!!!!

Pros: I loved everything about it. the room was perfect, the location was perfect.
Cons: I loved it, but I would have loved more pillows on the bed and I would have loved a few more towels in the bathroom.
Location: Everything is nearby! Sears restaraunt and Lori's diner right there by the hotel are fab choices and the trolley is right outside. LOVE.
I LOVE THIS hotel! We stayed here while visiting with my in-laws and it was magical! The history in the building is incredible and it was such a lovely atmosphere. the rooms were SO comfy, but I would suggest upgrading to a larger room if you can, rooms in SF are naturally going to be smaller, but it is totally worth the extra space. I loved the decor and the lounge upstairs. The starlight lounge is fantastic. I can't wait to go back!

Good location but hotel is 'tired'

The location just off Union Square was convenient, the staff was pleasant, but the hotel is tired and the amenities could use upgrading. The historic appeal is there, but if you're looking for luxury, this is not the place. There was a lot of street noise (cable car bells, whistles, sirens) and the old windows in the guest room were not up to the job of blocking it. The bathroom was only slightly bigger than those found on a plane, with an ancient - chipped - cast iron tub squeezed in (with no counter space) and the fixtures were falling apart. The hotel restaurant, Scala Bistro, was very good, but somewhat pricey.

Our San Francisco weekend

Pros: The hotel has a good theme, and we like the name. We also enjoyed the tasteful furnishings of the rooms, and other hotel facilities.
Cons: The size of rooms would be a hard one for the hotel to address, but our room was way too small. Having a shake up of staff is paramount.
Location: Absolutely the perfect location, it would be difficult to beat - unless you wanted to be nearer Fisherman's Wharf I suppose.
This was the second time we stayed at this hotel. I think, without realising it, we must have been upgraded the first time and this gave us a great impression. Our visit this time was disappointing, for two main reasons - our room was too small, well furnished, but just not big enough. The bathroom was particularly small, no room for two people and little room for one. And secondly, considering the projected standard of the hotel, the staff were too casual and the standard of dress not in keeping with what we would have expected.

The great stay in the city center

The hotel is great, beautiful, clean, stuff is friendly and drinks at the bar are delicious. Bus and cable car stops right are right in front of the hotel. Walking distance to restaurants, shops and all u need while in San Francisco. I loved the view from my room I could even see the bay. I would highly recomend this hotel.

Cons: A little noise on 15th floor from street construction at time of stay
Location: Location excellent walk to everywhere in San fran
Arrived early and was upgraded staff excellent good 4 day stay enjoyed the area very much

Too small for comfort

Pros: It was clean.
Cons: Not sure if they can build out their bathrooms.
Location: There were several homeless people and the area was noisy. But it was walking distance to Macy's and some high end dept stores.
If you like a little space, this hotel is not for you. The room was so small and the bathroom literally only had a 2 x 2 area to stand. The toilet, tub and very tiny sink were all up on each other. It was quite challenging to apply make up. There's no counter space. I had to utilize the toilet lid and place my stuff on top of it. Ugh! The hotel is definitely historic and the rooms are filled with unique and beautiful furnishings, but in my opinion that did not make up for the lack of square footage. Overall, the area is boarder line seedy unless you head toward the shopping area where Macys is located. The hotel was overpriced and I will not return.

Horrible

Cons: Everything
Location: Don't go to Union Square - it is a tourist trap and the stores are in every mall in America.
I wrote a long detailed review and Expedia refused to publish it. So all I will say now is this hotel was horrible, loud, inconsiderate and overpriced. Never, ever will we return to this property.

One night wasn't enough!

Location: Sears food may be a tourist staple, but it was beautiful and had fantastic food with great service. Trolley stops right in front of hotel!
We stayed one night so we could get in a tour of Alcatraz before our Cruise. We had to rush from the airport to the pier to make our tour, stopping quickly to leave our bags. My husband didn't even have to enter the hotel to check our bags - how wonderful! The staff couldn't have beem more friendly, the room was clean, well appointed and very roomy, and there are no words to describe how beautiful the hotel was! When we had to leave the hotel the next day to head down to our cruise ship, our requested taxi van was waiting for us. Great location and fantastic hotel!
