Palace Punta Cana not Palace Macao

Posted 22-Feb-2015
Pros: Food was great and the beach was nice and clean. The had people cleaning up everyday to make sure everything was in top shape on the beach.
Cons: Rooms. They smell musty and moldy. One of the pictures on the wall had mold growing inside.
When we initially walked in to Macao we were pleased. It looked modern and clean, however when we arrived at the front desk to check in we were told we were being "upgraded" (from an adults only resort to a family resort with kids) to the Palace Punta Cana and were whisked away down the road. Walking into the Palace Punta Cana it was very old European style fancy. We check in and found out the reason for our "upgrade" was because the other resort was overbooked. We went to our room (room 1133) to find that it was musty and moldy smelling, had no towels, and had a leak in the ceiling right in front of the shower. Also, the "king" bed was just 2 double beds pushed together. We called down to the front desk for towels and to tell them about the leak; waited for a little, but then went to dinner. Upon our return to the room we found a trash bin under the leak and 2 bath towels (no hand towels or face cloths). That was really everything we have to complain about (aside from people smoking EVERYWHERE). Luckily we only had to sleep in the moldy, musty room. The food and beach were awesome, drinks were great. Even the food at the buffet was great; plenty of options and all fresh and well cooked. We were able to try the Steak, Brazilian, and Japanese restaurants. They were all good, but we liked the Steak House best! They were also great about bringing drinks around the beach. We didn't wait more than 10 -15 minutes for a drink if we didn't feel like going up to the bar

Pros: Staff and food were wonderful.
Cons: Don't switch peoples' reservations
Location: Not too many activities going on anyplace in the facility.
We booked our stay at the Riu Macao but when we checked in, we were told that we were being moved to the Riu Palace instead. Palace was more like a hotel instead of a resort and we had booked the Macao because it was adults only. When I book a hotel I expect to stay at that hotel and not be made to switch at arrival.

Food great for all inclusive, utilize the ala carte. We loved them. Spent much of week at swim up bar pool. Not ideal beach for swimming, waves roll in pretty good, but beach was soft white sand. Nightly entertainment started close to 10 pm, we went to a couple, something to do nothing special. Overall facility was great, nice relaxing vacation

Beautiful hotel, staff and service!!!

Posted 03-Feb-2015
Pros: There wasn't much not to like about this hotel.
Cons: The music experience could be updated. More music in pool area and update to evening music would be wonderful.
Location: There are reservationist located on property to get you to anything you want to do in Dominican Republic.
My best friend and I took a week vacation in Punta Cana. We wanted an all inclusive, adults only resort and Riu Palace Macao was absolutely wonderful!! The staff was more than gracious and the food was absolutely 5 star! Our room was beautiful and we had a lovely view from our balcony. The beach was gorgeous as was the pool area! The resort is open air which made it possible to enjoy the beautiful weather of this Country. Love this place and I will definitely go back!

Nice hotel close to the beach

Posted 24-Jan-2015
Pros: The wait staff was so nice, the pool was nice... beach and palm tree area were beautiful
Cons: food, and no outside music in the late evening when people are trying to sleep
Location: Location is lovely.. Lots of walking areas between the RUI hotels.
We were one of three couples who booked 6 months in advance and when we got there we were all told we were upgraded to the hotel next door...They sent us over to the RUI Palace. We were coming from different states so when we all got together we were not happy with the situation since we wanted Adults Only and a smaller hotel. After complaining to both hotels, we were moved back to the Macau. Unpacking and packing again not something you want to do when you arrive. We are all world travelers and this has never happened before. When we book a hotel that was where we expect to stay.... We did enjoy the facilities at the Macau but the food was not the greatest. The meat was not very good and normally tough and the music was so loud at night - past 11 0'clock.

Decent place to stay

Posted 22-Jan-2015
Pros: It was quiet at the pool compared to the other RIUs on the compound!
Cons: If this hotel is really all-inclusive, then dis-allow tipping. And get better staff at the front desk...the girl we dealt with was rude.
Location: Didn't leave the property.
Of the 5 RIU hotels on this compound, Macao was the quietest (good for what we were looking for). I believe due to the humidity, the room smelled musty. The first room, however, smelled terrible. The girl at the front desk DID NOT CARE and I had to demand a new room. Very very disappointed in customer service right-off-the-bat. Overall a good vacation though. Didn't do any excursions, stayed on the property. We were a little disappointed when we noticed that most of the guests were tipping the staff....we had been to a few other All-Inclusive resorts (Sandals / RIU) where tipping was not allowed. To us, "All Inclusive" means "All Inclusive". Electrical Outlets = same as USA (with hole for grounding plug). Do not need an adapter. Was a bit windy and wavy on the beach (I guess that is the way it is this time of year). Sunrise was beautiful. Make sure to get up early if you want to reserve a table at the Steakhouse. You probably won't get a table reservation for the steakhouse the first couple of days because you can reserve for 3 days out. We didn't care for the Italian restaurant, but did like the Krystal Restaurant. We usually don't eat late, but by the end of the trip we found the 9pm dinner-time to be the most preferable (we wanted to maximize beach-time). We didn't go to any of the entertainment at night, so can't comment about that. Overall the trip was pretty good. Besides the front office, the staff was decent

Fantastic service from the minute you walk into the lobby. Everyone was super friendly and made you feel like they genuinely wanted you to have a great time while you are there. Very friendly and helpful. The excursions offered were amazing and at great rates.

Pros: The food & cleanliness was super! Couples only is the way to go!
Location: The location is great, as a short ride from airport and you were there in the sun! Never left resort for anything!
I book a trip to Punta cann, Riu Macao, as a surprise for my husband's "^60" Birthday! The entire trip was beyond my expectations! The staff went beyond to ensure this trip was Special for us. I tried to make a list of the staff that I felt went above and beyond, I know I didnt get a full list as each person there was extremely awesome to us! Alex, Dorian, Fransico, Rual, the entire entertainment staff, housekeeping, serveers, they were ALL always eager to please and help in any way. For the day we arrived, which was my husbands Brithday, we were overwhelmed! They had went out of their way to decorate our room, "60", balloons, champange, fruit tray, a birthday card, special VIP reservations, cake, etc.. The entertainment group really included everyone and extended a warm welcome both during the day and evening programs! As far as the food and housekeeping of our room, we could not have asked for more! Enjoyed every second, plan to book again next January, can't beat weather, fun and sun!
