Decent place to stay

Posted 22-Jan-2015
Pros: It was quiet at the pool compared to the other RIUs on the compound!
Cons: If this hotel is really all-inclusive, then dis-allow tipping. And get better staff at the front desk...the girl we dealt with was rude.
Location: Didn't leave the property.
Of the 5 RIU hotels on this compound, Macao was the quietest (good for what we were looking for). I believe due to the humidity, the room smelled musty. The first room, however, smelled terrible. The girl at the front desk DID NOT CARE and I had to demand a new room. Very very disappointed in customer service right-off-the-bat. Overall a good vacation though. Didn't do any excursions, stayed on the property. We were a little disappointed when we noticed that most of the guests were tipping the staff....we had been to a few other All-Inclusive resorts (Sandals / RIU) where tipping was not allowed. To us, "All Inclusive" means "All Inclusive". Electrical Outlets = same as USA (with hole for grounding plug). Do not need an adapter. Was a bit windy and wavy on the beach (I guess that is the way it is this time of year). Sunrise was beautiful. Make sure to get up early if you want to reserve a table at the Steakhouse. You probably won't get a table reservation for the steakhouse the first couple of days because you can reserve for 3 days out. We didn't care for the Italian restaurant, but did like the Krystal Restaurant. We usually don't eat late, but by the end of the trip we found the 9pm dinner-time to be the most preferable (we wanted to maximize beach-time). We didn't go to any of the entertainment at night, so can't comment about that. Overall the trip was pretty good. Besides the front office, the staff was decent

Fantastic service from the minute you walk into the lobby. Everyone was super friendly and made you feel like they genuinely wanted you to have a great time while you are there. Very friendly and helpful. The excursions offered were amazing and at great rates.

"Excellent"

Posted 15-Jan-2015
Pros: The food & cleanliness was super! Couples only is the way to go!
Location: The location is great, as a short ride from airport and you were there in the sun! Never left resort for anything!
I book a trip to Punta cann, Riu Macao, as a surprise for my husband's "^60" Birthday! The entire trip was beyond my expectations! The staff went beyond to ensure this trip was Special for us. I tried to make a list of the staff that I felt went above and beyond, I know I didnt get a full list as each person there was extremely awesome to us! Alex, Dorian, Fransico, Rual, the entire entertainment staff, housekeeping, serveers, they were ALL always eager to please and help in any way. For the day we arrived, which was my husbands Brithday, we were overwhelmed! They had went out of their way to decorate our room, "60", balloons, champange, fruit tray, a birthday card, special VIP reservations, cake, etc.. The entertainment group really included everyone and extended a warm welcome both during the day and evening programs! As far as the food and housekeeping of our room, we could not have asked for more! Enjoyed every second, plan to book again next January, can't beat weather, fun and sun!

nice relaxing vacation

Posted 18-Dec-2014
Pros: peace and tranquility. Great stuff and food
Cons: better activities, Movie theater for rain times, Japanese restaurant has to be improved or eliminated ( lots of people didn't like it).
We had one of the best time ever we did not want to leave. The food was great, except the Japanese restaurant. they also need to have a Movie room at times when it rains.

Good beach and great staff

Posted 12-Dec-2014
Bed was uncomfortably hard and they moved two doubles together for our "king". Very very old crowd as well. I am 27 and didnt mind it but a couple of years ago i would have hated it. Was youngest there by far.

Senior Citizen Resort

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: The rooms were very nice with his and her sinks in the bathroom. The rooms were nice.
Cons: They need a Jacuzzi and everything shouldn't close so early.
Location: The location was good. It was easy to walk over to the fellow RIU resorts which had more amenities.
This is beautiful, friendly, and clean resort. However, my husband and I usually pay a little extra to stay at adult only resorts because they usually have more of a night life due to the fact that there r no kids to worry about. But this resort was the complete opposite of what we were looking for. There was no Jacuzzi, all the pools close at 6pm, and there was nothing exciting or fun to do at night. There were nothing but elderly people that stayed here, very few young people. If you are under 50 then this isn't the resort to stay at. Oh and the food was nothing special either.

If you like Michael Bolton this is your place!

Posted 03-Dec-2014
Pros: The beach was beautiful . White sand clear blue water.
Cons: The entertainment. Play some upbeat music at the pool! We heard more Michael Bolton than we ever wanted to!
Location: Resort is fairly close to the airport. There is a little row of shops on the side of the hotel and about a mile walk down the beach.
I'll cut to the chase. The resort and rooms are clean but there is a weird odor (especially after cleaning). The beds are hard and the pillows are small (smaller than standard). We did not recieve a warm welcome like we usually do when entering a resort, we only got our welcome drinks as we were about to step in the elevator to be taken to our rooms. The buffet food was what you would expect for an all inclusive resort, nothing great. It was the same things day in and day out. They do not keep it open around the clock. Having the option to get a bite to eat late in the evening is always nice when on vacation. We ate at the Japanese restaurant which was awful. We left and went for a "second" dinner at the buffet and saw other couples do the same. The Steak House was the only place worth reserving. The fancy place (Krystal) was too over the top for me (duck liver and bone marrow). The beach was absolutely beautiful as was the weather! Do keep in mind there was a lot of sea weed and the waves are pretty rough! The staff for the most part was not very friendly (with a few exceptions) and almost made us feel as if we were a hassle. After we checked in we went down to the beach bar and ordered a drink around 5:50PM, the bartender did not seem happy and I am pretty sure he rolled his eyes at us (apparently they close at 6). Resort caters to over 65. There was no music playing unless it was Michael Bolton or Bryan Adams (seriously).
